Considering how dense those dots of white are I would wait to see better mycelium growth. That is a lot of suspicious growth for just 5 days. Be patient and check in another 4 or 5 days.

I would definitely keep a close eye on them and as soon as you have growth large enough for transfer, begin to isolate the colonies so you have a better chance of finding your ideal specimen.

Any downside to putting a drop of spore solution on my loop and dabbing it once in the middle of the plate? Do I really have to streak it?

Never had any success trying to preload a loop. Way easier to drop one or two drops on the plate and then drag a loop through it. Ime as always

Spore prints solve this problem for me as I just take a sterile q-tip/swab and take a few swipes across the plate.

Here is a good example.

Think I remember putting something to an old agar plate a couple weeks ago in the middle of moving my setup, must've got mixed up lmao, could be pumpkin, a. Burma, or vader


Damn, this is peak "weird agar issues" lmao

That old plate was just a straight MEA plate but it was made by my old boss. Found it, put some myc to it and grew out fine and continued to grow over the whole plate, little more than a week ago I took a transfer to one of my new MEA plates and these are the results, the transfer was even myc side down lol



Anyone besides me find that odd?

Yeah it’s weird. I had the same problem. I’m guessing lowering cook time didn’t help?

Damn. Was hoping that would get things going for you.

Well it’s a crazy thing to suggest, but if you can’t get the agar working you can always switch to BRF pucks for a while. That’s what I did before I had agar. Helped me save my clones and clean spore syringes/swabs.

Treat them just like agar πŸ€·β™‚οΈ

Have you tried increasing your malt extract?  Maybe run a small batch with double the amount.

When I was having these problems brf agar was equally unresponsive.

Maybe, I committed sin and bought pre-poured plates to address my immediate transfer needs while I troubleshoot my agar, feels nooby but I id rather have clean transfers than pride :rofl:

I'll try this, so far this weirdness has presented at 2%,1%,.2%, and 0% malt concentrations, have yet to try higher

I'm waiting on new agar agar powder (only ingredient I haven't swapped out to check, want to cover my bases) but when it arrives ill do some MEA plates at 4% & 1.5% and also some PDA plates (itll be my first time) and see if any do better, will also be comparing them to the vendor-bought plates

Got some plates poured last night for my first grow in 5 years spores will be here Monday. Can't wait to get some prints so I can hit the market place and trade for all of the PE varieties
