NZ Cruise in February. Any foraging spots in late Summer?

Hi everyone
I'm going on a cruise in early February 2023.

I love the idea of foraging for mushrooms in a different country (I'm from Australia) and am wondering if there's any chance of finding interested mushrooms (active or other) in
wellington
Auckland
Dunedin
Tauranga
Christchurch

I'm not looking for specific areas, but just a general idea of whether it's worth taking a squiz in late Summer

have a look at the NZ season pic thread and will see when things are popping OR go to mushroom observer or i naturalist to see season and species/location and most importantly if its been raining when ur there or if warm and dry.. if has been raining would be very important :wink:

Across much of NZ this tends to be the driest time of year, but the far south is most likely to be wet, and it might be wet anywhere. It's different every year.

So, rainfall depending, it could well be worth looking! If you get decent rain, it could be worth hitting up native bush in Auckland and Wellington and you might find Psilocybe weraroa. Psilocybe angulospora is found year round in plant stores too. Obviously there are lots of different things in the bush besides weraroa :smile:
