The deep state is the bureaucratic apparatus designed to ensure continuity in policy from admin to admin in certain areas, foreign policy in particular.  This seemed really important during the cold war, I guess.

The deep state is the civil service - the professional working class that actually do the functional work of government. Did people in DC hate Trump? Yeah for the most part, but their bosses are political appointees and workers hating their bosses is hardly something unique to government.

My friend works at the state department. After Trump took office, his department operated for almost two years under Obama era directives not because they were trying to undermine the Trump administration, but because nobody in the Trump administration got around to implementing their own policies. Aside from the political bullshit, it is hard to understate how totally incompetent the Trump administration was at managing the day to day operations of the federal government.

Government services and the boring non-political aspects of running the government were practically ignored. Underneath the high profile radical policy changes at various agencies, the government essentially ran on autopilot for four years. Even the lower level political jobs were ignored. My friends dept head, who was an Obama appiointee was fired in the first week, and nobody replaced him for 18 months. Things like consular services were totally ignored. It took like six months to get a passport because of staff attrition.

The BW parkway is a major commuter route between Baltimore and DC that is owned by the National Park service. It fell into such disrepair after Trump took office they had to lower the speed limit due to the pavement falling apart.

I didn't hear about Russia winning the war in Syria. At any rate this has got complicated over there while most are focused on Ukraine.

Preceding this Israel did a missile strike, I believe on Iranian forces in Syria (poor Syria, they're like everybody's bitch). Now Syria is asking Iran to not attack Israel from Syrian soil, because they don't need additional problems, so Iran complied and attacked American bases instead, which is understandable.

The thing with proxy wars is, I bet this doesn't get in the way of the prosed deal where Iran will supply oil and natural gas to Europe if (big if) the U.S. make the nuclear deal with Iran. Iran wants the same deal word for word negotiated by the Obama administration. I know nothing about the particulars of the nuclear deal but the U.S. would love to get Iran looking less like Russia's ally, and supplying much of NATO Europe's energy needs.

Sometimes it's politics and sometimes it's just business.

I never understood why people had such a big problem with the Obama Iran deal can anyone explain that? I have said for years and years we need to extend an olive branch to Iran and maybe even formally apologize for some things. Obviously they shouldn't have sided with the nazi and shouldn't be attacking isreal

Yes, with Iran you don't know.
With Saudi Arabia you know. As flawed as American democracy is, it's still embarrassing to be tied to them. There are a lot of countries that have oil, but apparently big capital's corporate ties to the Saudis' seems to have us stuck with them.

Remember nation building in Afghanistan to give women rights. Saudi Arabia has a stable society without wars, and their social and legal system is still in the 7th century.

Unlike me?  I'm the one who said Ukraine should have left things the way they were since 2014, when Crimea was part of Russia and Donbas was independent and there would have been no war.

I am in a minority on the shroomery, as I frequently defend the opposing side when they have a point about something or when my side make believes something about them.  I also attack my side if I think they're wrong.  People here get very confused by that and think it means I prefer the other side.
