Since April, what has Ukraine done?  Bombed Russia off Snake Island?  Snapped a photo in Russian territory?


This seems to be a good example of debating based on facts vs debating based on emotions.

The usual debate is "my side is better than your side" followed by "nuh uh, my side is better".

The above example tries to look at only the facts, and the facts show that Ukraine is losing badly.  Today was an especially bad day for Ukraine, but everyone's attention now seems to have shifted on Pelesi crossing China's red line in Taiwan.  (Do we not have a thread on this?)

China didn't shoot her plane down, but I suspect they will soon hit the US with massive economic policy changes that will sink us further into recession.

Speaking of which, are we in a recession now or not?  We've had two quarters of negative GDP growth, but Biden said not to worry about it, recession is getting redefined.

I try to avoid commentating on war as if it were a soccer match. It's kind of gross.
Russia does appear to have a considerable portion of Ukrainian territory. ..although I'd be careful cheering that on. Every town outside of the breakaway regions that they capture is another point of proof that this war is a land grab- not a special 'defense' operation of ethnic russians.
I guess we'll see how much they try to annex in the end.

Russia should have rolled Ukraine (the poorest nation in Europe) in days. They already took part of the country for fun just a few years ago.

With so much internal support Russia should have just marched through and handed out Nesting Dolls and everybody would have cheered and held hands.

Oh, wait. Russia blew people up instead.

Even if the real number 1/4 that, they've still lost more soldiers than the US did in Afghanistan in 20 years. They are saving people by the negative dozens.

Zelensky was offered a peace deal in exchange for recognizing Crimea as Russian and Donbas as independent.  He chose to fight.

Now that it's clear Russia will win the fight, does Russia give Zelensky their original offer again?  This war cost Russia a lot of money and lives.

Russia wanted to minimize ethnic Russians and civilian deaths, and Crimea overwhelmingly voted to rejoin Russia.  I'll keep reminding you of that until you disprove it.

Russia said Mariupol would be completely rebuilt in 3 years, and it they will make it a major tourist city (for tourists who travel within/to Russia).

Well, if I meet someone new, and find out that they are a convicted child rapist I don't write it off because it happened a few years ago and  decide it's probably cool to let them babysit my kids.

Eh 3 years seems like long enough. All you gotta do is sweep up a main street, pop up some beach umbrellas, take a few pics of smiling locals who are just so happy to be living under russian rule, and call it a day.

Life in Mariupol is slowly returning to normal.

Construction is going on like crazy throughout the city.  Mariupol residents who lost their homes as a result of hostilities will be given a new condo for free.
