But I don't know what was exactly said.  There's a darn decent chance Putin or the mouthpiece did in fact lie. It's all about the words you use and how you use them.

Sure, there can be debate about whether or not Putin controls the Ukrainian separatists, but depth and balance comes through giving the full context and allowing that debate to occur - not by attempting to influence opinion through a selective offering.

I'm also not reading the two-sidedness in your Blinken quotes. The first is saying that both Russian and Ukrainian states believe the Minsk agreement should be implemented. The second is threatening the Russian state with consequences, if there is further aggression in Ukraine. Am I missing something here? What's the contradiction?

All this just goes to show that no country should ever give up any weapons of mass destruction they have if they want to avoid being cludged out.

On the first point fair enough.

On the second point if you’re not seeing any two-sidedness no problem that’s your opinion. That’s not how I view his remarks.

If RUSSIA wants to be taken seriously, it shouldn’t lie about its intentions. Before February 24th, Russia repeatedly denied it was planning or intended to invade Ukraine. If Russia wanted to negotiate the terms it laid out, why didn’t it use the threat of invasion as pressure? It doesn’t make any sense.

Well, in the first quote Blinken said he’d be happy to see the Minsk agreement implemented as that would solve the problem in the Donbas region.
That fine I don’t have a problem with that statement, if only he had stopped there, it makes sense, it’s diplomatic, it’s not inflammatory.
But he just couldn’t help himself in the next quote warning Moscow if there was further aggression there’d be consequences. In my opinion that’s completely hypocritical as well as aggressive.
Who put the U.S. in charge?
Did he forget his government had been supplying weapons?
It’s absolutely not a genuine call for peace.

Nothing shouts out advanced capitalist economy quite like: we've made an agreement to buy aircraft parts from Iran because no other country in the world will sell them to us and we can't manufacture them ourselves (in 2022).

I checked out airline safety in Iran and it said they were generally OK, except that due to U.S. sanctions, some of their aircraft is too old, and they also have major issues with obtaining parts, so this can't be more than a partial solution for Russia.

Then there is the issue that Russia and Iran both sell gas for a living and are natural economic competitors, but they both don't like the U.S. so there's that. We'll have to see if or when the Russian commercial airline industry returns to pre-invasion levels.

I unfortunately watched the video yesterday and I'm still not quite right from it. Fucking horrible. Apparently another video was released of them stuffing his cut off penis and testicles in his mouth and dragging him behind a truck. Imagine the horrible stuff that's happening and not being filmed.

Fuck Russia. I hope after all of this they're knocked back 100 years and the world treats them the way we treated Germany and Japan after ww2

Also illustrates why the notion that "NATO expansion" posed any invasion risk to Russia is nonsense. Nuclear weapons remain an effective deterrent to invasion.

That much has been obvious from the start. Still,  It’s so damn easy to fall prey to that propaganda since it’s shoved in our faces by Russia and friends day and night.  Lord knows I’ve gone back and forth on it several times since they first invaded, but alas it is pure bullshit.  Pure and utter bullshit.

Ignoring all words and propaganda from everyone spouting it and simply looking at Russia and Ukraine and what’s going on between them as one might do when observing competing ants in nature paints a more honest picture.

I agree. We will oppose Russian expansion, but hey have far too many warheads to ever invade Russia. I think what we are doing right now is the George Kennan cold war strategy of containment.

Like on the one hand there do seem to be areas of Ukraine where a significant proportion of people feel more aligned with Russia than they do with Ukraine. You could debate whether such people being more concentrated in certain areas implies a right to carve off those parts of the country, but perhaps it would have saved everyone a lot of trouble if those people had just immigrated to Russia instead.
