Wouldn't it be safer for me to try out a TEK that uses polyfil or micropore tape instead of open holes? Or is the change of contamination taking hold of monotubs maybe not that high, especially if the spawn ratio is rather high?

That certainly seems like a less than ideal location choice, but do what you have to.  Your method of FAE control will not effect contams no matter which one you use.  It's purpose is just to restrict FAE enough to keep things from drying out, anything that would be capable of filtering spores wouldn't allow enough FAE to be useful.

Clean spawn will fight off contams on it's own - thats why axenic cultures are important.

That tub is fine to use.

A bunch of us have stood by the fact that unmodded tubs suck and cause more headache then they save. The only merit it has is it appeals to ppls lazy side.

I do not use 66q sterlite tubs, it's a slightly smaller tubs and I keep my sub depth at around 8 cm. I don't want to miss and drill the holes too low which might lead to dry sub. I feel something between 2-3 inches high from the sub level should be good.

I had my initial ones too low, Pasty came in and said you should have ~1.75-2" of clearance above the sub to not allow the air coming in to dry out the sub too much.

I’ve been using a big cooler. I’m using 3/4 of a pack with 9 litres of verm and 15 litres of water. Then I measure out 13 Litres per mono and 2 for top layer. 4 litres spawn.
