It seems that everybody is recommending this TEK.

One question though. My fruiting room is in a rather dirty basement, parts of it even have an earth floor with some condensation. I'm in a separate room though, which is in a nice condition, closed away from the rest of the basement.

Wouldn't it be safer for me to try out a TEK that uses polyfil or micropore tape instead of open holes? Or is the change of contamination taking hold of monotubs maybe not that high, especially if the spawn ratio is rather high?

Shouldn't the IKEA Samla boxes work fine?

Or is there a need for the lid to be better sealed?

Here is a video showing how the lid seals to the tub.

That certainly seems like a less than ideal location choice, but do what you have to.  Your method of FAE control will not effect contams no matter which one you use.  It's purpose is just to restrict FAE enough to keep things from drying out, anything that would be capable of filtering spores wouldn't allow enough FAE to be useful.

Clean spawn will fight off contams on it's own - thats why axenic cultures are important.

That tub is fine to use.

Yeah I'm a bit nervous going into this grow given the state of that basement.

What I was thinking was to build a wall in the growroom, so I would have to go through two doors when entering the room. Making less air contamination flowing into and out of the room. And then possibly creating high pressure in the room by adding a fan with a HEPA filter to pump in air from the outside into the room. Just like is done in cleanrooms.

I use 23L Samla boxes and they work well!

I'm doing this with shoeboxes and BODs easy tub tek. It's just the shoebox with a grocery bag w/ holes on it and two holes drilled into the side near the substrate. It's probably unnecessary but I always believed a vent was needed for the CO2 near the substrate level, and these small holes do the trick. I'll update with how it turned out. Substrates are ~35% colonized when I put them into this passive air exchange easy mode. I'm just going to check every few days and mist if necessary.

After dismal results with unmodified tubs I decided to try Pasty’s EZ Dial. These two pics are the same spawn separated by one g2g transfer. The difference is amazing.

Yeah ever since this thread was posted I made the switch and haven't looked back. I recommend it to all of the cultivators I know. The old polyfill days were a royal pain in the ass, then later days of MP taping was a hassle, and the EZ dials were a game changer for me. I'm all about cutting steps and unnecessary effort wherever possible. EZ dials for the win!

Has it really been 2 years and 9+ months since Pasty posted these? Life has a way of creeping by on ya. Sheesh!

To the same turn, EZ dial also appeals to lazy people.

Greetings! Going to try this mod, been running Bod's unmodded for a while which does work but I am ready to try this mod and see how things GrOw. Before poking holes I want to ask how high do you guys keep the holes on the long sides if you measure them from the sub level? I do not use 66q sterlite tubs, it's a slightly smaller tubs and I keep my sub depth at around 8 cm. I don't want to miss and drill the holes too low which might lead to dry sub. I feel something between 2-3 inches high from the sub level should be good.

I had my initial ones too low, Pasty came in and said you should have ~1.75-2" of clearance above the sub to not allow the air coming in to dry out the sub too much.

Do you use 1/4 of it for a monotub with like 4l water?

I’ve been using a big cooler. I’m using 3/4 of a pack with 9 litres of verm and 15 litres of water. Then I measure out 13 Litres per mono and 2 for top layer. 4 litres spawn.

In a previous post you stated a similar recipe using the same canna coir but you were using quarts for the verm, water and substrate per tub measurements. I was wondering if you could confirm your ratios please. Is this for 3 tubs, that’s what I get close to with the math. Thanks for the help!

Yeah it’s for 3 tubs but now I use a little less water than before. Instead of 15 I’m doing 14 quarts.
