Mono tub with air pump?
    #6258581 -

Ive searched and couldnt find the exact answer i was looking for. Im going to be setting up a monotub which will be kept under a bed for stealth reasons, under the bed isnt exactly the best place for FAE and theres no ceiling fan in the room. Would a aquarium pump hooked up to the tub be a better option for fesh air? Thanks

maybe..? or u can put some holes in there and fill with polyfill or tyvek or some shit like that..or just take the lid off and fan it out

Maybe if you put some of those bubble wands with suction cups along the side, right above the substrate, and polyfilled holes near the lid. I dunno, I'm not one for monotubs, but stealth isn't a concern for me. unless you put an air pump in, you're gonna have to take it out and fan often.

There's no reason why it wouldn't work. Outside of bubble stones, I can't find much information on it. So, it would defenantly fall in the experimental category.

My concern would be all the dry air being pumped into the tub, it might dry the casng out. A timer could fix this, but it would take some testing to get things right.

I've set up using the poor mans pod (PMP).....a single tub with bubble wands and an aquarium heater. a couple of smallish holes near the lid to allow for CO2 escape....the bubble wands are intended to keep a positive internal tub pressure thereby exhausting CO2? the bottom is filled with drenched perlite....have 4 cakes and 2 small bulk sub. constant 68-70F and 95-99% RH....pins after fopur days.....my first time....and I am happy with it so far.....I know there are better ways.....which I will graduate to in due time.

Or you could mist.

True. I'm always looking for ways to minimize the "effort" aspect of the hobby

Misting or bubbling would work.

Intresting idea for a bubblestone in a mono-tub environment: Feed the air pump's bubble stone into a container of water which has another tube feeding into the mono-tub.

Still there's something disconcerting about running a humidifyer under the bed. You could run an exhaust tube from the mono tub to discharge the humid air somewhere else.

Or you could just mist. I would still be concerned about the dry airflow. I looked around a little and 2.5 CFM seems to be a common airflow for air pumps. This is 150 CFM per hour, which would be a lot for a small mono-tub that fits under a bed.

True that Rahz, automation kicks ass. but FAE and humidity seem like bitches to automate if you do a monotub, which is what scared me away from 'em. It also seems like light would be an issue if they're under the bed, and you'd probly get side pinning out the woo-ha. in this particular application, I would say the KISS method is ideal. mist, fan, and get ready for side pinning. Best of luck!

if you open it it really ceases to be a "true" mono tub.The whole point of a mono tub is to have a self sustaining environment completely enclosed with in the tub that does not require any misting or fanning.you really need to just let a mono tub be so it can build up a good micro climate, opening to fan would defeat the whole purpose. You would be better off just doing traditional casings in a tub with a bubbler and perlite or geolite etc. in the bottom IMO.

i would take a vicks cool mist with a timer and modify it with tubes so that you will have FAE and a mist. worked great when i did it and its simple. pm with any questions.

Thanks guys. What i want to do is keep it a true mono tub, "set it and forget it", but was worried about the FAE because it would be under a bed.

The idea of a monotub is to basically "set it and forget it," meaning no automation necessary.

To the original poster, I would just do a monotub and maybye point a fan at from time to time. You could always set up an automated system and do casings but I think you'll be much happier with the monotub. Good luck!
