50m above sea level here in S Wales and this field is bulging - would take several days to pick them all!

aye aye! i concur!

what a year so far!!

i just returned from ten days in northumberland, sharing a field on private property with 30people. we went picking everyday and there was more than enough to go around. we didn't even have to forage off the property (imagine what was growing in the adjacent fields!!). it was literally a matter of plucking the best from each cluster and then moving onto the next. the smaller ones from the cluster would be juicier the next day.

it was as if it was an untouched field each day.. amazing! mother nature really provided this year!!

we left the field on the last day as if it were untouched yet again..yet all our take-home bags were filled to the brim.. amazing!! no need to be greedy. besides, it would have taken literally hours and days to clear the field. not my idea of fun. it was nice to just stroll, enjoy their beauty and pluck sparingly.

i have gone to this field the past six years and never experienced anything like it. funny how it was only libs flourishing, all the other types were present but in very small numbers..

i will certainly not take this year's gift for granted and expect a repeat ever.

off to the peaks tomorrow for another gander, forage and nature connection :awedance:

happy hunting all :naturetrip:

Just the big ones or the others as well? Found lots like the smaller ones in the first photo.

it's all good!

just found me a new patch today, though it def wasn't flat grass! 5 hours round trip on the buses, about 4 hours walking over hills and through deep mud and streams and all sorts! all worth it to find a decent area though!

happy trippin!

hello everyone,

found a new patch today! been looking for somewhere for a while now!

found about 120, and there was definitely more if i can move away from the public footpaths a bit further without having an angry farmer situation...

all between 100m and 130m in the north east

all my old spots only have small amounts so i've been dying to find a decent patch. found loads of places recently that look like the type of place, but found nothing. was close to giving up...

anyway, weather looks good for shrooms (or bad for humans) for the next week or so, so i might return there again next week

The big ones look like mower's mushrooms to me. The other ones that look kinda phallic might be egghead mottlegills which are kinda poisonous. You'll very rarely find libs that size. Most will be about the size of half a cotton earbud.

Those browner ones in your hand which don't match the rest (there's two of them) bin them. Once you take them home and dry them you should find that they stay brown which isn't right. The stems are also too straight

Thanks dude, I wasn't too sure of them either.
All the others you recon are about right? Some are quite darker than others, left ones on pic I segregated as unsure.

Glad to have helped - and I’m doing the same just waiting for cooler weather. This week of rain should help lower the soil temps too.
If it’s damp or has rained in the last day or two, you’re looking for slimy dark tan coloured caps, they go pale once dried a bit in sun / breeze. For me, much easier to spot once the caps are a bit drier. Happy hunting!

I wondered where'd you'd disappeared to ragu, great pics of some healthy libs there. It's good to know if a place is picked sparingly it keeps on producing well for years.

This weekend in the Brecon Beacons I came across a few places which seemed perfect yet weren't growing well, I thought perhaps they'd been picked clean in the past as have seen that happen, or perhaps it was just the mild weather as once you went to higher ground they'd start appearing.

Had a good finale to the season today, started with finding one at the end of a rainbow haha, then filled my boots with water, then filled them with libs. I won't be out again til November new moon but it has been mild so you never know...

Enjoy the rest of the season

They're just wet. Will go the same colour once they dry out.

Anyone near brighton know of any good spots to scout for the next flush? Managed to get a decent haul in West Kent (Knockholt) over the weekend but during the week I'm based in sussex. Would be good to hear from any seasoned hunters!
