Hi! Are we talking about the environment agency map? I think the colours correspond to elevation, but I haven't really looked at it properly as I use the Welsh sets. It does make sense that you'd have more luck at a certain elevation though because obviously the higher you go the lower the average temperatures are so the season is always earlier at elevation compared to sea level. Wherever the grey areas are that you've found productive must be the elevation where the season is in full swing right now where you are.

Hi,

Not looking for an exact spot, but would love some reccomendations for good hikes / circular walks around the peak district where you think it would be fruitful. Happy to explore and find some nice spots but some reccomendations for walks that you know would be well suited for a little hunt would be great!

I recently saw Martin the Maker on YT mention he tried the stems from liberty caps and felt nothing, I was wondering if any of you had tried the same?

I've had stems seem to be strong but they were with dust from caps as well so not a good test.

Hey people just had my first luck this year, had only been out a few times to check old spots with no luck, but hadn't had a chance in the last 2 weeks.

This was at a new spot that I'd heard could be good, dislocated my shoulder last night so thought I'd check it out hoping that any other pickers would be stuck at work like I should've been!

Not loads but only walked around for an hour, so still happy with them. I'm not in a great area, very south and very flat, and I'm so busy this year I wont get a chance to do the usual trip away to the Moors, Wales or the Peaks. So could be it for the time being!

My friend and I found huge amounts earlier today, south wales. Didn't snap pictures but it was the most shrooms I've ever seen, couldnt look somewhere without them. Without walking 200m from the car we found 1000s and didn't scratch the surface of the field, goodluck hunting everyone.

Who knows how long the season will be where you are, so you never know. Time is a bugger, though, isn't it.

Take a look on here:
https://www.magicmushroommap.com/map

Check elevation maps (Website like this - https://www.freemaptools.com/elevation-finder.htm, there may be better ones) for high ground, around 400m+, although you'll find them lower.

North facing slopes, sheep fields, pastures, etc.

Anything you find, make sure you start an ID thread to ensure you're confident you've picked the correct mushrooms.

Ive got the magic mushroom app i havent had much luck with it atm.
Thanks for the tips. Is it only suggested to search for them in the morning.
Lets say i dont find any in an area for the best part of the morning is there any point in searching else where in the afternoon?

Persistence is the key. If you don’t find any in the morning, by all means give up and go home with nothing. OR, move on to a different location and you might just drop super lucky and get one of those fields people are talking about on this thread, where there are literally thousands. Like anything in life, the more time you dedicate to it, the more chance of the outcome you desire. Equally, the more ground you cover, the more likely you will find them.

Also, why anyone would say it’s best to go in the morning, I don’t know, other than you get more time hunting before it gets dark. If it isn’t raining, libs become much easier to spot as they dry out throughout the day.

I am not sure north facing slopes are inherently a better bet. They are best *early in the season* simply because they cool down first.
