Perhaps that age group is still relatively self-sufficient and are able to vaccinate and isolate in their own houses

I assume the majority of 90+ persons are living in care homes and are basically fucked once Covid makes its entree there

Because of the high vaccination rate in that age group they will not get seriously ill and therefore not get tested?

Our healthcare system blows in a lot of ways, and there's a lots of disparity across the country, so you have some places with really shitty healthcare mixed in with a few places where the healthcare is top notch. We'd be better off from a public health standpoint if we had some kind of universal healthcare where practitioners/hospitals couldn't be sued for every little thing, and everybody had access to cheap preventative healthcare and meds, but we prefer to bitch about personal responsibility and tout the benefits of capitalist healthcare while nonprofit hospitals rake in billions and don't advertise prices and insurance companies make decisions about healthcare instead of doctors. Poor healthcare in places is only one of the reasons we're getting decimated by covid though. We do lots of other stupid things to help that problem along. Don't sell us sort. Nobody does stupid bigger and better than America.

It's been a while since we picked on anybody who's been spouting the benefits of being infected with covid, so here's an article on some preliminary research on long term affects of covid-19 on the brain:

here's a salient quotes from the article:

"The team found marked differences in gray matter – which is made up of the cell bodies of neurons that process information in the brain – between those who had been infected with COVID-19 and those who had not. Specifically, the thickness of the gray matter tissue in brain regions known as the frontal and temporal lobes was reduced in the COVID-19 group, differing from the typical patterns seen in the group that hadn’t experienced COVID-19.

In the general population, it is normal to see some change in gray matter volume or thickness over time as people age, but the changes were larger than normal in those who had been infected with COVID-19.

Interestingly, when the researchers separated the individuals who had severe enough illness to require hospitalization, the results were the same as for those who had experienced milder COVID-19. That is, people who had been infected with COVID-19 showed a loss of brain volume even when the disease was not severe enough to require hospitalization.

Finally, researchers also investigated changes in performance on cognitive tasks and found that those who had contracted COVID-19 were slower in processing information, relative to those who had not."



This is a troubling finding. This preliminary research is showing that people who had even mild covid have lost grey matter, along with function, in some areas of brain that are involved in decision making and reasoning, and many people who got covid were already making bad decisions without reasoning them through before they got infected. During my time in this thread, I've noticed that some of you guys have been makeing recklessly bad decisions about you health, and I don't want to see any of you decay into a posting style like hamhead and catch a perma because you can't connect 2 dots with a strait line, so please wear a mask in public and get vaccinated if you haven't already. I'm not sure if there's data yet on repeat infections, but it's entirely possible that they make you even dumber, so unvaccinated people that have already had covid might want to mask up and get vaxxed just to be extra careful. You guys were starting at a low baseline on good decision making, and you've likely already lost some much needed brain function after that first infection. I don't want to jump to any conclusions until the data comes in and gets reviewed, but you could easily an extra vulnerable population for getting dumber if this thing get exacerbated by a reinfection.

I'm hoping the research is either retracted before peer review (probably not though), or at the very least that the grrey matter loss doesn't get worse with additional infections. If you can pick up these changes with imaging and correlate them with loss of function, then they're bad. If you're getting sick of keeping up the racket, then you could probably start investing in nursing homes for when all these young idiots end up with dementia in they're early 60s. That way you could retire and still profit of the increase in stupidity.

I've been enjoying that kind of study/experience during the pandemic as well. It's amazing to me how easily and quickly people become desensitized to a continued threat after the hysterics stop. It would have been nice to have some real leadership during the initial phases of the pandemic, when the fear and the threat were both new and increasing together, so we could capitalize on the fear to productively address the threat. Now I'll probably never know how well we could have done on that front. I was already pretty convinced we could royally fuck up the psychology around this kind of response before we followed through with it, so this is less interesting and harder to learn from than it would have been if we had done everything right and still failed. Now covid is just going to be one more tangle to add to the Gordian Knot with all that other stuff. We're going to need some leadership to step up if there's going to be anything meaningful to come out of all this unnecessary and entirely preventable suffering, and I'm not seeing any signs of that kind of excellence anywhere. hopefully I'll be surprised 20 or 40 years down the road, but I'm planning to try to be a pain in the ass as we loose this war of attrition. Might be the best I can do, but I'll keep an eye out for better options if/as they become available.

My turn!

Day 1 fitness tracker shows something amiss. Elevated respiration rate and resting heart rate, plummeting heart rate variability. Didn't think anything of it due to the abuse I had been subjecting my body to lately.
Day 3 loss of smell and mildest headache
Day 4 two (+) Ag tests and 1 (+) rapid PCR. Received monoclonal antibodies. Worst of symptoms - fever chills GI shitting my brains out pain. Highest fever 99.9.
Day 5 sleep, resolution of most symptoms.
Day 6 smell begins to return. Resting heart rate dips as low as 39, haven't ever seen this, but also haven't taken a break from drinking in awhile.
Day 10 two (-) Ag tests, smell 80%. Isolation period ends.

My stack: Single doses of mAbs, harmaline. 2x per day of zinc, quercetin, D3/K2, C, folic acid, famotidine, NAC, kratom. And taking care of head.

Isolated with windows closed and HEPA+UVC, blasted potty with disinfectants after making brown. Roommates didn't get it.

Feels good to be out of isolation. It was a mental process fully accepting stay the fuck home and be sick with covid, during pride weekend nonetheless. AMA.

air flow/circulation is crucial indoors because usually it is stagnant air. Viral particles need to be pushed out and filtered.

I got pfizer last january

rapid test today came up negative. feeling fine now except for a minor cough. I felt like fucking shit when I woke up this morning until about 11am though. my body was unhappy about something real. since I got back on this covid unit and since infection precautions are so much more lax than they used to be, I just figured I probably had a case. I have openly admitted that some of my patients have been vaccinated. I suggest you go back and re-read those posts, though, because the devil is in the details. it honestly might still be COVID, i dont trust those rapid tests for shit. but I mean fall is just blowing in here, it's not strange to have these symptoms at that time for me. I cant tell you how many times I read in a patients medical record that their rapid came back negative but their PCR came back positive, or a series of rapid tests had repeatedly conflicting results
