Again to clarify, when you say the article mentioned "him" dealing with a person connected to the Russian mafia, did you mean Felix Sater, or Trump?  I only read Felix in your article.

How much do people get vetted before having office space rented to them though?  I don't know the answer, as I neither rent out, nor rent office space.

Quote:
With Bayrock’s help, Trump began his broad transformation from a builder to a brander. He reinvented himself and his business model—going from being a force in real estate to a nearly bankrupt but brazen self-promoter who had mainly his name to sell. In lieu of the big banks, Bayrock helped to bring Trump back into real estate by supplying him with the equity stake he needed to entice new lenders for big projects, according to a former Bayrock official. The biggest of those projects was the Trump SoHo, the troubled 46-story condominium and hotel that has been a target of lawsuits since it opened in 2010 and is reportedly being investigated by Mueller over whether it was financed partly by Russian money.

There's quite a few links in that article, plenty of rabbit holes.

If I was to believe everything in that article I'd say he was backed by Bayrock. It says further in the article that Cohen was dealing with Felix Slater, did you see that bit?

I don't doubt it.  But Bayrock is an American real estate investment and development firm.

Yes, I saw that.  As I previously said, Felix Slater is an American citizen.  I originally asked "What Russian criminals lent money to Trump?  I don't recall this story."

Again, I realize Felix was Russian-born, but he is an American.

With dual citizenship? Does it really matter?
With links to the Russian mafia the story says, that probably matters.

The article says Bayrock paid Trump for using his name, once again this guy just has the worst luck.

Quote:
The Trump Organization did not respond to a request for comment for this article. But in a deposition related to Trump SoHo litigation, Trump said he was drawn to Bayrock because he was impressed with Kazakh-born Arif’s connections, and that Arif had brought potential Russian investors to meet him. “Bayrock knew the people, knew the investors,” Trump said.

it’s one thing to have a pathological compulsion to turn everything in to competition, but why do you have to drag other people into the exercise?

Kryptos has dual citizenship, but that doesn't mean he's a Russian spy.  I know a lot of Russians in the San Francisco Bay Area with dual citizenship.  I doubt any of them are spies.  Obviously there's a tiny possibility, but how many Americans with dual citizenship to any country do you think are spies?  I have an awful lot of friends with dual citizenships to other countries.

What links did he have to the Russian mafia?  I only thing I could find is that his dad was in the Russian mafia in Russia.

I think everyone here knows Trump mostly made money later in life by selling his name/brand.

Trump needed money; Bayrock had some.  It makes business sense to me.

Might there be something improper here?  Possibly, I guess.  Is there evidence of any wrongdoing?  None that I've seen.

I don't know that. I doubt putting Trump's name on anything increases revenue, as front for money laundering though it may be of some value.

So Trump doing business with a Russian-American citizen working for an American company, whose father might have been in the Russian mafia makes Trump guilty of what exactly?

I apologize, I don't seem to be as smart as the rest of you to figure this out so easily.

Relic talked a lot about it here:
relic said:
he sells the licensing rights to using his name on buildings, wineries, cheap meat companies, cheaper clothing manufacturers, etc.

and here:
relic said:
his businesses rely entirely on selling his image, selling the trump name.  It's common knowledge that daddy Fred was the real estate brains.  Donnie tried to replicate that, failed repeatedly, and finally realized that the way he could make money was by putting his name on objects and businesses

Ummm that Trump is able to surround himself with criminals and be too stupid to know they're criminals? I dunno, I only went to Year 10 at school.

But then there's this old article with more rabbit holes.
https://newrepublic.com/article/143586/trumps-russian-laundromat-trump-tower-luxury-high-rises-dirty-money-international-crime-syndicate

Quote:
Tokhtakhounov, who had been indicted a decade earlier for conspiring to fix the ice-skating competition at the 2002 Winter Olympics, was the only suspect to elude arrest. For the next seven months, the Russian crime boss fell off the radar of Interpol, which had issued a red alert. Then, in November 2013, he suddenly appeared live on international television—sitting in the audience at the Miss Universe pageant in Moscow. Tokhtakhounov was in the VIP section, just a few seats away from the pageant owner, Donald Trump.

After the pageant, Trump bragged about all the powerful Russians who had turned out that night, just to see him. “Almost all of the oligarchs were in the room,” he told Real Estate Weekly. Contacted by Mother Jones, Tokhtakhounov insisted that he had bought his own ticket and was not a VIP. He also denied being a mobster, telling The New York Times that he had been indicted in the gambling ring because FBI agents “misinterpreted his Russian slang” on their Trump Tower wiretaps, when he was merely placing $20,000 bets on soccer games.

So, I guess, seeing as we have no evidence, we will have to assume that poor Donald was fooled again and unfairly compromised by those pesky Russian mafia crims again, talk about more bad luck.
Maybe he thought those oligarchs were just normal self made billionaires like himself? That's an honest mistake I could see anyone make.

Quote:
On the few occasions he has been questioned about his business entanglements with Russians, however, Trump has offered broad denials. “I tweeted out that I have no dealings with Russia,” he said at a press conference in January, when asked if Russia has any “leverage” over him, financial or otherwise. “I have no deals that could happen in Russia, because we’ve stayed away. And I have no loans with Russia. I have no loans with Russia at all.” In May, when he was interviewed by NBC’s Lester Holt, Trump seemed hard-pressed to think of a single connection he had with Russia. “I have had dealings over the years where I sold a house to a very wealthy Russian many years ago,” he said. “I had the Miss Universe pageant—which I owned for quite a while—I had it in Moscow a long time ago. But other than that, I have nothing to do with Russia."

There you have it, straight from the Don's mouth, nothing to do with Russia.
I think that closes the case.
