There is so much wrong in there.

Per capita doesn't even make sense to judge the immigration metric. A place with a small population only needs a few immigrants to make the top of the list...

Yeah but it's not like those people turn up and that's the end of it, they need to be housed and enter the workforce etc.
Per capita shows which countries are doing the heavy lifting.

Have used bod's teks too

It's heavy lifting for sure, I guess some people like to be burdened for the benefit of the very rich.

No, that only applies in swing states. In most states, it doesn't matter how you vote.

That's simply false.

Not necessarily, I sure don't. We can help people out and still acknowledge the super rich as a bunch of collective arseholes.

Immigration benefits the super rich at the expense of the bottom 90%. I don't like helping The Elite at my expense.

In reference to swing states would imply the presidential election

Oh.  That's not a particularly important election.  I think Hilary Clinton won the nationwide popular vote.  Why do you ask?

Yes but it's not like the 90% haven't also improved their living conditions at the same time.
I'm not arguing that the elite aren't gouging the system for all they can but immigration isn't the only reason for wealth inequality.

I just was wondering why a citizen's vote for president in non swing states mattered. But I'm not compelled to believe it does.

It matters because it makes your voice heard.  There are literally millions of people who don't vote.  If they all did, I imagine we'd have some issues come to light that really don't now.

But you're going to believe and do what you want.  There are plenty of people who'd rather whine about how fucked up things are than actually do anything.  Smoke a bowl and enjoy life, dude.

That's what I do man. I just wanted some people from shroomery who usually hsve extremely well thought out and valid arguments to give me their reasoning why they think voting will accomplish anything. Or at any speed that's meaningful.

Just because it's the system we have doesn't mean the only way to fix it is by playing it. I feel like my voice is way louder outside of a ballot box personally

Yeah, there are tons of reasons to vote, and there are tons of elections far more important than president, but you don't really give a shit, and I don't typically waste my time trying to convince the apathetic to give a shit.  Ultimately, your silence is your assent. The less people who vote, the more power concentrates to fewer people.

It is easy to become disenfranchised....I think most people go through it. Hopefully one can come through and give a shit. Yes, the rules and the system is imperfect AF but I still have hope that we can change and address our own wrongs.

I think history is important. I'm fairly certain I remember more revolutions happening where people couldn't vote than where they could. Now I don't want a bloody revolution and maybe that is voting's aim. Civil revolution within a republic.

There's very few experiments in history where all citizens could vote. Arguably in America we don't even have that yet. the criminals and people disenfranchised because of institutional racism (voter ID controversy for example) can't vote or can't easily vote or restore their "privilege" to vote. To think this system is the crystalization of human knowledge... Nope.

People hold onto the constitution like god wrote it. The same constitution that put Japanese in camps and held slaves for generations

Again, an imperfect document created by imperfect men. Unfortunately, the Founders get superheroed to death. The document does provide an evolutionary way forward, provided we elect people of sound mind. I come back to blaming the populace for voting this way; it truely is a representative republic.

I suppose this is all getting away from the thread but do you believe that trump is a or the direct result of lack of voting?

Whenever I read something like that, I'm always curious if Trump is really that dumb, or if people are taking what he says out of context (which happens ALL THE TIME).

Here is what Trump said with the CONTEXT added back to the end:
Quote:
Trump said:Katie, she tested very good for a long period of time and then all of the sudden today she tested positive... This is why the whole concept of tests aren’t necessarily great.  The tests are perfect, but something can happen between the test where it's good and then something happens and all of a sudden... she was tested very recently and tested negative, and then today I guess for some reason she tested positive.

He actually makes a good point for why testing provides people with a false sense of security.

Obviously you can still catch it after you're tested.

I am in a minority on the shroomery, as I frequently defend the opposing side when they have a point about something or when my side make believes something about them.  I also attack my side if I think they're wrong.  People here get very confused by that and think it means I prefer the other side.
