Sounds likely that some second or third cousins were Nazi's.  My original argument was this is not a thing to politicize anymore than a rebuttal to invalidate claims that Beto or Harris had distant relatives that owned slaves.

your proof is that "his family comes from a region....so it must be likely...."

that's not proof.  that is an assumption on your part.  you made a claim, now back it up or shut up.

and i made no attacks on you.  you're the one calling my "nature" "oblivious" and alluding that i'm somehow "trolling" you for demanding proof to your claim.

keep living in a fantasy world, though.

Yes it is proof.  Unless they inbred for so long them the whole inbred clan moved to the states.

Of course it's the slave owners who should pay.

Are blacks paying their own reparations?

People who did not own slaves should pay nothing.

And your family could be next.

Your family owned slaves? Add the privileged tax and deduct the free labor your distant family extorted.

These are not my ideas. These are democrat campaign promises.

I Don't support reparations and I don't think anyone should pay.

But if you support financial reparations, then you ought to live accordingly. Let the genetic testing begin.

Another 2 year old XUL understanding.

First, I'm pretty damn sure there are no 154 year old slave owners.  There is a lot of law, that limits the relatives of a person to pay off their legal debt.

The estate is what pays that.

Suppose it's a bit late to take away peoples inheritance.  America fought a war to end this sort divisiveness.

So who exactly do you want to pay for the sins of slave owners and for the betterment of the used black community.

Who is paying this?

Everyone?

Even blacks?

Well we could all collectively try to better ourselves as individuals and community.  One person is small.

I think things are well in my community.  There seems to be an epidemic of drugs and sex crimes.  That's the usual we read about.

I find that mental health treatment could be wiser and better.

We have more than enough food, if someone is marginalized and making bad decisions with a handful of bad luck.  I do think we could do more for community gardens.  But we have plenty of food choices.

There's education choices as well.  Not many high level jobs around here.  There is a tiny tech industry forming (security).

Over all I don't think the black community is doing bad.  Inner city has it's own issues with logistics and culture.  I don't live in a huge city nor do I want to.

Failed industry can be terrible.

Did you know there are white people out there who look as white as you and I that have black slaves amongst their ancestry ? If we do give people reparations we will be giving money to a few confederate flag flying honkeys who probably don’t know that either , and some other white people too .
Dude! I just remembered you told me one time you have a black brother . You may want to reconsider your stance on this shit . You might get some money out of it homie . Who cares where the money comes from if your the one getting paid .

I knew a guy like that.  His nose is a bit 'black' but he's white, with blonde red hair and pretty darn Irish.  He's said he had a black ancestor.

I grew to dislike him for other reasons.  His personality got a bit lack of caring for his past and he grew into a careless drug user.  As a lot of us did at the time.

oh, another thread like this. well i'll just try to nip it in the bud then. (copy pasta from xul's other thread about kamala harris)

https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/26107189/fpart/7#26107189

**ahem** this whole thread/argument is an example of "tu quoque".

"You avoided having to engage with criticism by turning it back on the accuser - you answered criticism with criticism.
Pronounced too-kwo-kwee. Literally translating as 'you too' this fallacy is also known as the appeal to hypocrisy. It is commonly employed as an effective red herring because it takes the heat off someone having to defend their argument, and instead shifts the focus back on to the person making the criticism.

Example: Nicole identified that Hannah had committed a logical fallacy, but instead of addressing the substance of her claim, Hannah accused Nicole of committing a fallacy earlier on in the conversation."

https://yourlogicalfallacyis.com/tu-quoque

this essentially boils down to "well you're racists too, so we should all be allowed to be racists".

also to further clarify, people allegedly cannot be considered racist unless they openly proclaim the belief that their race is superior to all others. so unless this is their stated belief we can cool it on the racism smearing campaign here...

this argument is hyperbolic and similar in nature to the mccarthyism of referring to people as "communists" to support their conflicting beliefs.

so let's just take a step back, a deep breath, and TRY to get the bullshit OUT of politics.

also if someone criticizes an opinion, it is not an attack on the person. if anything it is an "attack" on the lack of sensibility being expressed by the person.

and finally, to quote jim jeffries: "i think we can all do better" lol.

States get federal road money for repairs and general construction.  In fact it's leverage to make states pass laws they desire.  They used that exact tactic to raise the drinking age to 21.

As well as if it was only state tax, your gasoline and diesel would cost more.  I don't drive, so it doesn't bother me.

Its funny how a trump supporter has an issue with someones ancestors owning slaves when trump HIMSELF has said tons of racist shit not only way before his presidency but during his presidency also! and tell me why the majority of white nationalists are backing trump? Sounds pretty hypocritical to even try and play that card when you yourself support someone who not only has said racist things countless times but also has treated women like objects and talks shit on twitter on a daily basis.

Tell my what kind of shit Betos has done HIMSELF? Does he go around talking trash the way trump does? Does he have white nationalist groups backing him? Also has he ever been accused of treating women the way trump has? I personally wont be voting for Beto but I would def love for him to be in office over this ass clown we have as a leader now.

What has trump honestly done for you XUL? I'm always interested in hearing what the other side has to say.

To each their own but all I have seen in this last term is Trump causing trouble for this country yes jobs went up when trump came into office but the economy is stale it really isnt anything to brag about at the end of the day.

So Beto was caught trying to beat a guardian report that would detail his deep family history and ties to slavery. It turns out he beat the guardian's report and got in the first word.

What's with all the slave owning KKK Dems running for president?

Why would lefties want to support privileged families who are guilty of the very things they hate. Slavery, generational wealth produced from blacks, KKK busing, and Indian impersonators?

Wow. This is going to be a dirty identity politic kind of election. And Trump will crush the fake establishment candidates.

Quote:
The Democratic presidential candidate made the disclosure shortly before a report by The Guardian was published detailing his family's slave-owning history

Democratic presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke acknowledged Sunday that his ancestors, as well as his wife Amy’s, had owned slaves. O’Rourke wrote in a post on Medium that his paternal great-great-great grandfather enslaved two women in the 1850s. His maternal great-great-great grandfather, he added, “most likely” also owned slaves.
