Well, back in the 1970s, the Weather Underground was setting off bombs.

A dude assaulted a right wing "amateur journalist" back in 2017, but that seems more like random violence since the attacker didn't have any connection to or know the victim in any way.

Apart from that, I'm drawing blanks.

EDIT: Oh, who could forget that one congressional baseball shooting? I guess I did, considering we've had like, 300 shootings since then, but that one was explicitly political! And from the left! Not like the right wing shooting in Dallas like, two days ago?

Why do people even show up for shit like this? Right or left, if you go a rally or to protest someone else’s rally and you get beat up, egged, pepper sprayed, or arrested it’s your own damn fault. You should have just stayed home and and waited to cast your vote in 2020 because that’s the only real power that you have. Rally’s and protests aren’t changing anybody else’s mind or influencing their votes, it’s all just a big waste of effort for both sides. I’m not looking forward to 4 1/2 years more of any of this.

On the topic of Trump here I would like to officially come out as not being pro trump. I know I’ve argued that perspective before, but being perfectly honest here I think the Trump administration will end in a flaming ball of failure. I’m not talking about the Russia bullshit. I’m talking about the debt and economy. Historically a recession hits every 7 years. We are very long overdue for one, and I think this one will be much worse than the last one. I don’t think trump caused it or started it, but he certainly will get the blame.

He owned this economy and passed his tax plan which helped blow the bubble up bigger and create the illusion of increased wealth, but it’s all built on a pile of debt, and this house of cards will come crashing down. I want to come out before it does and say I jumped ship ahead of time. I’m not anti Trump, but I am very worried about the future of the economy and the potential repercussions that I think are coming in the near future. Especially with all this trade war shit. These are characteristics that are typically exhibited by an empire in decline and I think the American empire is in its very late stages.

Candidate Trump used to talk non stop about the debt and the bubble economy and then he just completely flipped on it. He didn’t have to own this economy. He never should have passed the tax plan. The trade war “has a very high likelihood of causing significant disruption to an already fragile economy” (is that better?). This isn’t going to end well. As long as he sticks to his guns on immigration though he hasn’t totally abandoned his base.

The trade deficit "is fucking insane".  The ironic thing is Trump hasn't done enough to address it. We're still seeing all-time highs on the trade deficit AFTER the tariffs, which tells us how meaningless it was in the first place.

Because it is their right.

Because protests are effective. Especially for a marginalized group wishing to draw attention to itself. Less effective than political red v blue protests, but you see claims of crowd size mattering all the time. Even here.

Why does China need to be stood up to?

Specifically, how? Because there are plenty of ways that China can be stood up to. US companies that don't want to follow the Chinese rules can simply choose not to do business there.

US consumers that want to bring back manufacturing to the US can demand higher wages for manufacturing jobs to attract workers, and then higher wages for everyone else so that they can actually afford shit made in the US.

It seems to me that the US wants to have its cake and eat it too, while ignoring the realities of capitalism.

Profit is king, nothing else matters.
