Got to the spot late today hoping and hoping it wasn't picked by all the weekend hunters and on the way up the path I found a stomper right next to the path which had  a very light coloured cap... a quick look around and I found another patch of about 10 beautiful specimens.. proceeded to my spot and 30.... having a great second season and have barely branched out from the first spot I found last year.

Nope, it got hit at least the day before. Saw someone today though.

EDIT: Just curious if i saw someone on these boards today. The same spot got hit last year as well, and i dont think that hunter is someone from these boards. Basically its my bad luck, there are limited spots and more hunters out now. Though im happy to get a few nice photographs from the area.

Not to worry OOISI now is a good time to branch out, they'll be widespread and easy to find very soon. Great time to find new patches. The hills really are a big place to hunt. A little imagination and time spent on Google earth and you can easily find untouched mega patches, very close to the burbs.

At the height of the season they can often grow along the fringes of dirt roads lined by gums and you can spot them while driving. Always remain cautious of on-lookers, of course.

Great to see so many having success already and so many great pics. I think the late start is working in our favour. I've never seen so many pins come up at once before.

The area I search is obviously used by many people and has been for years as there is obvious paths everywhere. I have enough to get me by now so I plan on branching into new areas. I'd love to find an isolated spot that nobody knows about.

Had a good day out in the forest today managed to find 20 or so decent sized subs some of the biggest I've ever seen personally. Does anyone have any idea what causes a spot to grow mushrooms which have much longer than average stems?...I'm guessing its not the same mechanism that plants have where if they don't get enough light they will stretch upwards and outwards to find sunlight? Seeing as mushrooms are not a big fan of the sun I'm gonna assume it's a different environmental factor at work. Doesn't matter too much was just curious and wanna learn as much about mushrooms as I possibly can  Anyway here is a few pics of the days haul. If anyone wants to go explore some new spots with me next week after this rain swing us a message Am finding it better when 2+ people are hunting together (dont get me wrong definitely don't mind the solo hunts either haha)

Hi guys! Me and my bf only recently gotten into hunting and are super excited about it! Last week we went up to the north of Adelaide Hills for our first hunt which ended up very unsuccesful - probably bc we went in totally unprepared:rolleyes:. So after doing our homework for this week, we went hunting again yesterday and on the brink of giving up our hunt, we found something! Not too sure yet about the exact species, but 99,79% sure that it is an active one  Will ask for id in another thread though.

Now our hunt will continue to find even more magical species and  porcini:smile:
Thanks everyone for all the available knowledge and happy hunting everyone!

That might've been me frunco. More often than not now I see other pickers around there, often they've been good for a chat.  Went back to the same area again this arvo, found a few more, usually they've been in clusters but I have a feeling quite a few singles were pins left behind by others that had ripened.

Nice pics!

How long do shrooms keep for?

I have about 20g of dried shrooms from 2 years ago which I have kept in a glass jar with desiccant bags.

If they've been kept in the dark at a stable temp they'll still be active, but since they're  freely available right now, just pick some more.

My first finds yesterday, dried out in dehydrator immediately a(1.6g) as they were on the verge of rotting, and I dont think I could stomache them wet. HOLY SHIT. Glad I didn't do 3.5g as planned.
Most intense journey I've ever been on! Wish I can remember all of it but too much happened and only parts of it is clear. What a beautiful fruit
