I'm not going to stop consuming the energy I do because I enjoy a first world standard of living and I'm not going to throw it away.

Thats why you guys got Trump, cause now its either 1) change your ways or 2) be destroyed by your own greed.

Mother Nature is a self regulating system, if you drive something to excess the excess will make further excess impossible once you hit a limit.

That limit is just about hit.

I don't see it, people living in the West aren't going to change their consumption of energy. It's not going to happen.

Point blank: Either Trump or his successor will run America into the ground so that it will not be possible to maintain or expand on previous energy consumption levels -- unless humanity wises up and starts doing the right thing. Not because they are sadistic fucks but because crashes are a necessary consequence of our current system and its crash is way way overdue, like a forest with 20ft of dead wood waiting for a forest fire.

Quote:
As far as the "limits", I honestly don't see any issue here. Oil is still very affordable at $60 per barrel and gasoline is under $3 in most parts of the US.  Also, natural gas in the US is incredibly cheap and we use more of it everyday.

You fight wars to maintain this. Soon there won't be any country you can bomb to "make it stop" because you hit the NATURAL LIMIT. And that isn't a bronze age nation of brown people you can conveniently bomb into the stone age with your militasry industrial complex that chows down on over half of the US gov't's budget as it is.

Know how Silver is ridiculously underpriced? Same with fossil fuels in the US.

Quote:
This is total bullshit, the whole world can't live a first world standard of living. This is basic math, it's impossible.

Imagine the whole world deciding it can no longer afford having the 5% of the world population THAT IS YOU use up 25% of the world's resources?

Trump KNOWS the system is going to collapse so he throws away all common sense and changes laws such that the elites can stuff themselves to the maximum extent with wealth and power for when the great famine comes.

Those "shit creek/SHTF" stories surrounding precious metals.. there's a level of truth to that. Not space aliens or illuminati conspiracies with human secrifice but simple capitalist opportunism, working independently by unwritten rules that follow from the capitalist paradigm.

Fascism failed.
Socialism failed.
We are seeing capitalism fail now.

WE NEED A NEW PARADIGM AND THAT MEANS THAT WE ALL MUST WORK *WITH* EACHOTHER AND NOT *AGAINST* EACH OTHER

And this time not some of us at the expense of the rest of the world  :hitler:  but with the best interest of the whole world in mind :rainbowcloud:

Asante that's such a shit point of view idk what to say. Sorry you see the world this way. The standard of living for all sentient beings animals and humans has steadily been increasing. Technology is moving towards pollution free energy at record pace. And global sentiment for a earth that's a home to future generations is the status quo now.

I definitely don't have a 'first class' life style.
I do enjoy listening to shows about history, and the idea of one world is only possible if we dilute and destroy successful cultures.
Even cultures that speak mutually intellegable languages don't want to be part of the same governing body.

Like, what the 'one world' people want is fucking stupid for anyone with the mildest gleening of history. Someone that isn't just a slave to the multicultural ideas of the last century.

Yes, we attack other nations to push our interests. The way he put it made it seem like it is a stupid thing to do. It will be though. America is on the way to energy Independence, and with that we will have less interest in projecting our power.

The idea that capitalism is on the down turn is rediculous. That's a stupid statement. Capitalism is an emmergent property of a non centralized economic system

People think their situation sucks. If you have a flush toilet and clean water you have a perspective problem if you think you have it bad. Unless you're in prison all your anxiety is manufactured from comparison and insecurities.

Maybe that's a broad and harsh statement. But I fully subscribe to challenging your point of view and mindset until you wash away all the bullshit and find happiness and beauty in the world you occupy.

It's a really stupid statement, as the human experiance is more then drinking and shitting.

Your mind is a biological manifestation, so saying something is 'manufactured in the mind' shows deep ignorance.

You don't have the power to make other people see beauty and feel happyness. You really need to check yourself if you think you do.

Capitalism is alive and well, unfortunately is works for less and less people everyday. It mainly works for the top 20% today and that's likely to be the top 10% down the road.

I agree, the US military will continue to do what they want to do, that's why the current system isn't going away at all.

The old paradigm may be your world, but it isn't mine anymore. I'm packed and ready to board the new one when it presents itself.

What for you is unthinkable, people working together, actually is part of human nature and it comes in full swing once push comes to shove. Well, push is coming to shove.

The world isn;t going to end, its going to get a lot less stupidly organized as there will come a focal shift away from competitive behavior towards synergy. That may be the end of the world in your eyes, to me its the beginning of a better time, a time of glory for all mankind.

Re: What do you think of nationalism? [Re: Asante]

Competition is what decides what works. Working together is great, but it only lasts so long as people want the same thing. People are diverse, and well we need the same things to live at a basic level, we don't all want the same thing or to live in the same world.

It just sounds like revolutionary thinking. Revolutions don't usually work out. We have capitalism because the negotiations of markets works. We don't have communism because the economics of deciding where to make, and what to price every small component in something like a tablet is incredibly complex and isn't suited to a bureaucratic body.

The world isn't ending. I don't think politics or the environment are beyond repair.
Things are on course. Technology and the spread of information and wealth are increasing despite it being not in the proportions people want.
Europe has some of the most connecting history in the world and can't form an identity. What you want, when looked at through the lense of history, is unlikely.
Most nation's have geographic borders based on stratigic importance and cultural similarities. Well we can work in peace, people have their own interests. You can't deny geography, and I like that we do have cultural diversity because the competition makes us better our cultures. Just like competition between Italian city states led to the Enlightenment.

The thing I find un-psychedelic is the partisan hackery and small mindedness that comes with it. It isn't transcendent or thoughtful, it's grating
Maybe it's ignorant, but I like to think that despite what we say, most of us want the future not to be terrible for others even those we won't ever meet. It gets very abstract helping those people

Nothing wrong with being fried. It makes the lack of love and partisan rhetoric more surprising.

Im very against immegration, but understand the altruistic impulses of those that want them. It doesn't make them bad people. I like history, and know from watching alot of it that it doesn't usually benefir the local population.
I wish more people looked to history rather than ideals

I know I come across a right wing jerk, but altruism and unity are a good thing and have their place. It's a gift not an obligation. When it becomes an obligation it isn't a gift, it's a curse

You aren't though. You are throwing out divisive insults that I haven't seen anyone defend well toward someone that really has far less power then people think. Instead of focusing on the complicated truth they point at the president.

The great thing about America is our system splits up power so we can deal with bad administration's, and I'm not convinced this is one. The economy is doing great, no new wars.

I think it's a tough case to make that he is racist. He is the most gay friendly president we have ever had.
The real issue noone talks about because Americans are partisan morons is that noone votes third party out of protest. It says alot about what weak followers we are

I think nationalism is plain arrogance.
I'm don't think globalism is a smart idea, as local communities can be a very powerful, and environmentally positive, construction. I believe a city or small areas should have their own rules. Some stuff work locally and do not work globally. Also, not all resources should be shared / traded.
But I don't believe in national boarders.

Well, there seems to be some contradictions in your reasoning, if you don't want resources to be shared, you can't have open borders.

What happens if 500 million broke third world migrants flood into the US?  What happens to our resources for US citizens?  It's gone, that's why we have national borders, citizenship and national sovereignty.
