I'm not going to get sucked into debating a question like this, but have a comment. It appears to me that if there is a God, one of the deals that makes this reality/world go round is free-will. Meaning if there is a God he keeps his hands out of this little experiment. So your yogurt murder has nothing to do with whether god exists or not.

What would be the point of creation and evolution if God were going to
intercede every time things went wrong.

Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.

define "god"

I do not think there is a separation between creation and creator. Such a duality is just misleading about the true nature of reality and the cosmos. I believe we are a part of something similar to brahman in the hindu tradition.

this makes me really sad that over half of you think that there is some higher power out there taking care of things. Is it for security? Do you need to feel loved? Does the idea that you will eventually stop working frighten you? Is it because thats how you were raised? (I'm betting 90% of you who believe in god were raised in a household who left that impression on you)

most people who "find" god on their own do so under dire circumstances when they can't accept things for what they are.

edit: (note im mainly talking about christianity). Those of you talking about god in nature or whatever, believe what you want. To me it would be like worshipping mathematics since it governs so much of our existance.

I don't worship anything. We are all simply multicelled organisms which are all working together for the common goal of Survival. If anything, survival would be the god to worship.

my friends discuss it alot and one of our theories for the creation of religion is something like that. Religion is a powerful tool used to unite and control large groups of people. Just look at islam. They have people so dedicated to their beliefs that they willingly and easily kill themselves for it. From a ruler's point of view, this kind of dedication is incredibly powerful. The egyptians believed that their pharoh actually embodied some deity thus giving him complete control over all of their lives. If you can convince people of something as powerful as a god, and give them beautiful promises that can't be proved nor disproved since it requires death to really see if its BS or not, you can control people much easier then if they perceived you as someone just like them. holy run-on.

True, and that's why I never go into long detailed conversations with people who practice such beliefs.

If they believe it, and don't harm (or bother) people with it then let them be.
