Shrooms growing slowly / Not enough air??

Hi there!

First, a big hello everyone. It's my first and definitely not the last post on this forum! 📷

I recently ordered my first 2 grow kits of the same mushroom (cubensis). I followed some online instructions and some of them said, loosen up the soil with a fork, some didn't, so I choose to loosen up the soil in one box but not the other.

The box where I loosened up the soil was already harvested 2 weeks ago and is in the second flush already, working beautifully.

The box where I did not do that struggles to flush the shrooms out I feel.

First, there were only very tiny ones for a long time, and then more tiny ones flushed out. But some of them have a weird hue to them as you can see in the images and they seem to struggle to grow. Now some of the small mushrooms grew bigger and have a more normal looking color.

Yet, I don't know what's taking so long for this one box, still, no harvest there and the other box is already ready to harvest on the second flush.

The only thing I do is opening the grow bags twice a day to give in some new air, sometimes I leave it open for a few minutes (3-5). But only twice a day.

The room is at a constant 19-24 degrees.

I would love to learn what the issue is, so I can get this box going as well!

Looks dry and looks like it needs air. Are u giving them light?

They should get enough light. They are standing right next to my other box which grows fantastic.

But both of them have a lot of white mycelium on the stems. How much air should I give them and how?

As far as I understood, if there is a lot of mycelium, it means there is too much moisture / humidity?

I am obviously a complete noob and all what I know is from the little amount of research I did so far. I just want to them to turn out good :smile:

Poke around few holes in the bag. The fuzzy feet as its called, is due to lack of fresh air

Sorry, but those look dead to me.  Probably suffocated them.  Does the bag have holes in it for ventilation?

I'd remove all of those and try for a second flush.

That has to be one of the dumbest things I've ever read here. Why are you telling the OP to pick his fruits prematurely? If I could give you minus 5 mushrooms right now I would. If you honestly don't know better then you shouldn't post, If you do think you're right you shouldn't be growing, bottom line.

I would leave those uncovered for the rest of the flush. A lot of those seem to look like aborts from my POV, because of the caps being so dark.

Let the smaller ones grow.. keep an eye out for any growth actually. If seeing progress.. leave and let nature take care of them. You may have to stand around more often to mist.. but those things most definitely need air.

They indeed do look like they were suffocated.

Those aint growing they look like shit and they're all fucked. They're not going to do anything but get more fucked left attached
There's not a single mushroom growing on there that I would bother drying or eating. Its a loss look at it

There's not a single mushroom growing on there that I would bother drying or eating. Its a loss look at it



So, just pick all of em and start over? There are no holes in the bag. They have kind of stripes around them, idk to what purpose.

Those are my bags. As you can see, the other box growing fine but still has a lot of mycelium on it due to the lack of air.

What am I supposed to do with those bags?

Just leave the bags open. Your others look okay.small caps. Could be genetics on that

Just now to give them some fresh air. I usually open them twice a day and let fresh air in but only around a minute.

Should I just leave both bags open at top from now?

I would man. A minute is not enough air. They need consistent air with not too much drying them out. You may have to mist more. But those bags are being counterintuitive.

I would use a clip or a clamp to close half of the bag and leave half of it open. That way they're not drying out too fast, but enough oxygen.

Agree.  Just leave them open.  You can't really ever completely cut off the FAE.  They need to breath all the time.  I looked at your pictures again, and don't see anything alive.  maybe a couple tiny ones from the side.

You can hopefully salvage another flush though.

Yup, 100% agree. Chop it down and set yourself up for flush 2. Get them more air.  You can see that mycelium has even started to reclaim some of the smaller and now fuzzy capped ones from your first picture. Give this a read for seeing how much air you want to create for a similar sized container.
