I was thinking about growing shrooms outside. maybe in a forest. by injecting spores into the ground. my question is where though? under a tree. in the open. covered. what type a soil ect... tell me you think.

Well, pasteurize some dung, open a hole on the ground and use the spores. Good luck!!!

Just sticking spores in the ground won't do you much good. The best way is to colonize some substrate, dig a hole outside, fill the hole with manure or compost, mix in you substrate/spawn, water, put a tarp over the patch, and wait.
If you are determined to do it with spores, then just innoculate some dung outside. It does not need to be pasteurized, because its outside and that would be pointless.

Not spores but mycelium spawn in honeywater, it's working but i'm having problems with ants and other criters (i think the place i choose was not that good). Anyway, i didn't wrote that article, just pointing a direct answer to a direct question.
You can see some of mine outdoor pics, just search for "outdoor furious mycelium growth".

let's see the fruits... mycelium is easy to grow outside... i doubt that it'll work since i've been trying to get it to work that way for a while (walking around innoculating crap piles) ... the best thing for something like this is honey water or some other liquid culture... boing..... oh and MAIA... i know all you "newbies" out there have me peg-holed as a flamer... i think flamers make fun of people in pointless situations and about pointless topics and most of the time they are far from being right.... well if telling the truth and pointing out falicies (WACK ADVICE) is flaming then you can call me Mr.Flame thrower....
here's what you said hon... i bet you didn't think i'd check hu??? :
"Back to the point, i made a hole in the grownd (1 feet * 1/2 feet * 2
inches deep), the bottom was covered with a thin vermiculite layer, i opened the jar and droped all the substrate over that layer, then i cover the substrate
with one more thin vermiculite layer and finnished with some poting soil over that final vermiculite layer, I then took a small box wich was placed over it so
i could mist, protect the possible mycelium and to emulate a good microecosistem holding heat and moisture "
sounds to me like there was no spore-to-dung innoculation after all. I know this hobby may seem easy as pie sometimes. But just because you made one crappy little patch that looks like it was taken over by cobweb mold doesn't mean you swallowed up all of that info....

In reply to:

Hahaha...LOL . That's funny. Imagine what any passers by would be thinking - giving crap an injection...shit that would look funny.
Maybe it is WHACK advice, what the fuck would I know?

I was just waiting for the day you'll pick on me. It just hapened!!! Peace Brown, i can take the flames, makes the reading kind'a funny.
Well, i know i know i'm a newbie on this shroom growing stuff but i have a strong will and i know i'll get results sometime soon, i allready noticed that growing dicks on the ground could be hard but possible, it was my first try man!!! Anyway your flame just make me want to have faster results. I never said it was a spore-to-dung innoculation, the links has it i never tried it.
Peace,
MAIA

I dont have access to any type of dung (except maybe hourse), but why cant i just inject the spores into some mud (or compost. ie dead grass. or whatever) in the forest?

I guess you can try for novelty when you have spores to throw around like that. Monkeys around here have tried to innoculate most of these things
"but why cant i just inject the spores into some mud (or
compost. ie dead grass. or whatever) in the forest?"
there are mushrooms that will benefit from these environments but the types most of us are growing wont doo good in these environments. If mud and dead grass were good for innoculation with spores, there would be lot's of information about it. True, these are the places where mushrooms usualy live, but you have to understand that what you are doing in your terrarium is basicly trying to mimic nature. In order to do this properly you have to have a sterile, airy, and highly nutritious substrate for your spores to grow and thrive into mycelum->knots->pins->fruits. you also put the mature mycelium in a controled environment (terrarium). In nature, there are many fungus that over power the poor little psylocybe. Some of these fungi dont even have "fruiting bodies" but a large mycelial structure (usualy underground and unseen by the human eye) which is nearly impossible to fruit in unless you are using some sort of plastic to seperate your colonized substrate from the other fungus' mycelium. There is tons of information out there on how mushrooms grow and what kind of characteristics they have. I just scrached the surface so you can basicly understand that it would be *extremely* hard to innoculate the floor of the forest with straight spores. Now spawn is another story ... peace

I thought this tek wouldnt probably work, thats why i asked before i did it. the reason why i wanted to do this tek is cause i cant find any HALF pint jars any where!! i could only get pint jars, and its been a week and two days and not ONE sign of any growth! so i need a 1/2 pint jar. any ideas where to get some? all the m.f.'s around here use the "there not in season" excuse.
thanks

Walmart in most places has been stocking jars for about the past month or two. They have wide mouth 1/2pt's.

i was also thinking if i were to inject the spores before a rain storm, this would maybe help the odds better. yes no?

The reason there are so many "new" mushrooms after a rain storm is that that mushrooms MYCELIUM is already present in the ground. The raistorm hydrates that mycelium to the point where it grows fruits. It's just like what your doing in your terrarium:
1. grow your mycelium on nutritious substrate
2. place in super humid environment
To answer your question, No. But why not try it anyway .

you might try starting off with growing mycelium in a jar and then go and cut it up and spread that around.. that way you can kinda jump start the whole process.
