The mycelium is doing it's best to fight - so cool that we are able to observe this.
Best of luck with your project.

Good job so far.
Get that tub into fruiting conditions and you should be fine.

Hey, looking like you got past your troubles, good work. Bacteria can be dealt with, even though it's no good to have.

What are you using for a substrate? If that's coir it's way too wet. Honestly it looks like everything you've posted is way too wet, so I recommend toning it down with the misting/watering. If you squeeze a handful your substrate no more than a couple drops of water should come out, and I think I'm seeing way too much moisture on your walls. This is likely why you had bacteria in the first place.

 Good luck!

Hey thanks for replying,

It's a manure mixture, I actually haven't misted at all so that's all from the substrate. Maybe I'll flip the lid during he day to dry it out a bit.

If it's manure it's probably less wet than I stated. The condensation on the walls has me a little worried though.

Id go with a smaller amount of substrate for the tub, maybe its just the picture but that looks very thick. Longer time to colonize, harder to regulate water, and easier to contaminate for those reasons.

I cant tell the size from the picture but for 32qts i do a 2 1/2- 3 inch depth and it seems to work better than a 4 or 5 inch depth. And the 70qts i do i normally do 5inch depth

Got it. Yeah, it took forever to colonize I think thats probably why, I also had a really small spawn ratio... thats another thing ill adjust next time.

Curious did you use a composted-poo based sub ? It looked like a couple little wood slivers in there. I was asking because I bought some composted cow poo and screened it real good worrying that the wood could cause problems.

For 6qt shoeboxes I use 2-3 pint jars spawned with coco coir only at a rate of 2:1+ (so 2 pint jar scoops of coir for every 1 pint jar of spawn. If I made a little too much I will go up to 2.5:1 or even 3:1 rarely). This causes the least problems for me with moisture, colonizing, and fruit shape/size.

Yes, it was a purchased hpoo mixture. (I ran out of time do do my own but will be doing straight coir only next time in a more traditional monotub.)

Thanks for the info  I haven't tried a shoebox yet... are you using these over traditional monotubs?

I personally prefer shoeboxes myself, they are easier to handle, still set them and forget them, and if contamination does happen you lose a qt or two of spawn compared to 4-6 with a traditional mono. Though i still do both, normally big tubs for my clone tubs and shoeboxes for my agar ms tubs.

Got it. That makes sense. I'm just starting agar work (i'm going to get that down before I do another grow) so maybe will try some shoe boxes. I'll look up a tek and educate myself.

I used to run both unmodded monos and shoeboxes side by side for about 4-ish months. I have completely removed monos from what I work with because:

  • All your eggs in one basket, if one jar is bad it messes up the whole mono. While this is less of an issue these days for me, I still understand it is a benefit.
  • I can grow more per square foot. These have smaller footprints so you can actually grow more mush in the same space if you're creative (i.e. stacking).
  • You can grow more different varieties and track them individually.
  • They're easier to stagger your spawn times so you're not harvesting a whole fucking monotub at once every time. I tend to stagger it so I never harvest more than 2 boxes a night. So much easier on my life in general.

Edit: Start with this Tek. Feel free to ignore the bag step and just leave the lid on. If the mushrooms look like they're going to push the lid, just unlatch it.
