So, that rye looks super bacterial. How much of the syringe did you use to inject it? This is why it's not recommended to use syringes on grains.

And honestly, no one is going to recommend using pre-sterlized anything here. This bag was likely a waste of money. And possibly wont grow out anything. If you still have some of that syringe left I highly recommend starting over making your own BRF cakes. You can start here, it's stupid easy, and you can get all the items really easily and cheaply. Seriously, don't be intimidated by PF tek.

If you have 30- min to spare this video will hold your hand through the majority of the process



EDIT: if you really want to test out and see what grows you could mix the bag all together and see if it fully colonizes the compost and grows. My guess is that you're going to end up with a bacterial mess.

Man that's really sad to hear. I've never tried magic mushrooms before and I've been waiting so patiently for these things to grow so I can try it with my friends.

I figured I was gonna mess the first bag up so i bought 2 bags of this. I feel so ripped off lol

I do have 5ccs of spores left but after 4 weeks of this, I'm just very discouraged lol

I messaged the guys who sold me this bag. Waiting for them to reply back. Maybe they've dealt with something like this before.

Is there a way I can take the colonized rye from here and somehow still get some sort of a yield?

I feel you on being discouraged! That really sucks. Most of us have been there for sure! If you started over with just that syringe and used it on a dozen 1/2 pint BRF jars you could have mushrooms as soon as 4-6 weeks. It's not instant, but you can get there. I believe in you! Shit I just came out of a 2 month stint of basically only growing mold on every project I started. I failed my first 2 grows and never saw mushrooms for 2.5 months.

But you're here now and we'll help you get there! Seriously, just keep asking us questions.

As for the rye... it's kinda fucked being in there. Sometimes the myc "wins" over bacteria (using that really loosely here), but it takes a while and isn't guaranteed. I highly recommend waiting for other people to reply to this thread, but in my opinion there's a CHANCE that if you mixed that whole bag together that you could get mushroom to fruit IF the myc ends up colonizing the whole bag. I've never used an all-in-one bag like that before though.

What are the instructions for the bag? Let the rye colonize then mix it all together?

Must've been hellish 2 months bro. But like they say, nothing good comes easy.
I'll give the method you mentioned a try with the remaining 5CCs I have left.

As for the instructions for the bag, this is what the seller said, "After receiving your kit, remove the protective shrink wrap and unfold the top flap. Not opening it, just unfolding it so fresh air can flow through the filter patch. You want to inject around 2-4 ccs of spore or liquid culture solution through the self healing injection port. This amount will vary depending on the potency of your syringe. It is important not to inject too much solution as this may cause the kit to become over saturated.

In about 3-5 days after inoculating your mushroom grow kit, the grain at the bottom of the kit will start to turn white or “colonize”. Wait until all the grain has fully colonized. Once that happens you can mix the entire contents of the kit to disperse the grain throughout the soil. Wait and allow the entire kit, grain and compost to fully colonize. You will want to fruit the kit once the entire substrate reaches 80+ or higher colonization. Ideally you want to wait until the kit is 100% but sometimes mycelium growth will slow down and your kit may not reach full colonization within an ideal time frame.

Now you can begin to fruit your kit. This can be done in the bag, a terrarium, plastic tote or mono tub. You generally will get a larger yield when fruiting in a tub but you also run a higher risk of contamination.

If you choose to fruit in the bag you simply want to lower the temperature to induce fruiting. Temperature will depend on the species you are growing. Once the kit starts to fruit you will see tiny mushrooms or “pins” forming on the substrate. As the pins develop and grow upward you may need to cut open the bag to make more room for the growing mushrooms. Once the mushrooms are fully grown, harvest them and fold the top of the bag closed. You can use a piece of tape or paperclip to close off the bag. This is to prevent the substrate from drying out. You can even spray the bag with clean distilled water to rehydrate to substrate if necessary.

Fruiting in the bag

Hello. If you plan on fruiting in the bag, you will want to open the bag to give the substrate some fresh air once the substrate is fully colonized. Then possibly mist the substrate with clean water if it appears to be drying out. Then fold the bag shut to hold in moisture. This can be done with some clean tape or a paper clip. Drop the temperature to induce fruiting and open the bag once a day or every other day to give the substrate fresh air. The three factors that will take the substrate from a vegetative stage to a fruiting stage are temperature, oxygen level and humidity. Controlling all of these at the right time will cause the substrate to fruit. it usually takes about 2 weeks. Once the fruits start to grow you may need to open the kit to give the mushrooms room to grow."

Ok, so, yeah, I'd wait to see if anyone else comments before going in on this idea, but I say do this:

Mix the shit out of that inside the bag. Break it all up good, mush it around, mix it up so that it just looks like brown/black mess. Then wait until it's mostly white, and the "top" starts to get an even cover of mycelium. At that point I would either put some holes in the top of the bag for more FAE, or cut the bag and dump the whole thing into an unmodified boot box/monotub. Get a bin where what you have should fill about 2"-3" of the bottom. Follow the linked tek from there.

I would SIMULTANEOUSLY work on PF/BRF cakes as well. Hedge your bets as that's a LOT of bacteria in there.

This the reply I got from the company that sells the grow bag "
Hello. Yes this looks normal. Try rotating the kit or setting it on different sides for a few days to get the mycelium to spread. It looks like there is a little bit of moisture accumulating on one side. Too much moisture can inhibit growth. When it has colonized a majority of the grain you can mix it in with the compost, which from your pics it looks like you are almost to this point."

Sorry about the mess in there. Nothing I can add to the advice already given except to keep your chin up. 4 weeks down the drain (potentially) is a huge bummer, but not the end of the road.

Looks good to me, once all of the rye is white you can shake the bag, the mycelium is probably having a hard time breathing under all the poo so that may explain the long wait. When you shake the bag everything will grow  a lot quicker, if the bag's also incubating on its side it might help take some weight off the mycelium to breath more.
