1st grow, hows it looking? * 1

Soo this is my first attempt ever, they are all treasure coast strain on whole oats from a spore syringe. I was just hoping to get an opinion on how this looked, this is at almost 2 weeks, it was slow moving at first but I put them somewhere warmer and it's looking ok I think, I have this so far.

Looks alright I see no contaminants. Grain looks a little wet but not bad. Spore syringe to grain is a gamble though

@herbnmyco For sure thanks, I'm just concerned because it's my first set of jars and am worried something will go wrong. And that's what I've read, is it best to start on agar with a syringe?

I never had any luck with straight spore syringe but yours looking good. Definitely suggest agar as well once you get into it there's no other way lol great job!

jeeeeesus that's a big tub. Best of luck my man! How many lbs of grain you using in all? Have you chosen a fruiting chamber tek yet? I'm doing BRF cakes as well as rye grains from MS right now for my first, but I'm not sure if I have enough grain on the rye berries.

Can you describe what you see here that looks "a little wet"? I'm trying to train my eye here, but am having a hard time seeing the signs.

Update: Jars were nearing what I though to be 30%, soo I took the plunge and shook them, wish me luck,I'm nervous as hell that that was a bad idea..

if it recovers and colonizes ur good, its part of the process.

the waiting game sucks tho when ur not used to it

It was a hard decision. I held my prettiest jar in my hands looking at it for a solid minute and almost didnt do it 😂

I shake twice, at 20 - 40% and again around 70 - 80%. Average recovery is 24 - 48 hours but recovery results in inoculation of all the surrounding fresh grain. Usually it's shake at 80% wait 2 days, birth.

Honestly that looks good, I dont really see any bacterial spots in that pic. Post another pic when it's fully colonized.

Please for the love of God if u want mushie don't do this. Its ur first time ever. U put spores straight to grain. Which at best is risky. Spores to grain is a gamble so all the jar COULD look good but if one is not u will loose the whole lot! Please take my advice and look into shoeboxes! U can add only 1 or 2 jars to each to better ur chances of getting mushrooms! If one goes south then u will still have 4+ more... I'm telling u, I have been down this exact road when I started out, it did not end good for me... Its a bad idea and anyone who says its a good idea isn't experienced enough... And honestly u will get the same amount of mushies no matter what tub u spawn in.

That jar will probably finish 24 to 72 hours at 75 to 80 degrees depending on how aggressive it is.

I can't agree with you enough. I wouldn't suggest anyone go larger than a 20 quart tub until they are working with a clone or isolated strain and have learned the difference between clean jars and grain swamps.

Looks great! I agree with Joey. Bulk in a shoebox with coir and get a clone of a big fruit or two, or a tight healthy cluster on agar.

T+ ~20 hours post mixing spawn and sub, coir/verm, 15 qt tub 1 qt & 1 pint oats,
~1/4 brick coir & 1.5 qts verm.

I think your grain moisture content was spot on imo. Are you directly heating your substrate? I’ve always heard it’s better to keep the ambient temps where you need rather than direct heating.

It's currently sitting on top of another empty tub with the lid flipped, exposed to whatever temps my room is so ~70 degrees farenheit to maybe 73/74 at times the central air hasnt ran

Looks good man I've had no trouble with ms to grains your looking right on track. Also I'm gonna suggest shoe boxes as well I know you already started but for the first few times with grains don't put all your eggs in one basket.

For sure I understand but I had 3 qt jars and several pt jars and I decided to throw a qt and a pt in a 15qt tub, 2 inch sub with ratios I stated above, so honestly it seemed like a good grain to sub ratio to me at the time, I still have more qt jars consolidating and I'm up to my ears in coir and verm and tubs so I didnt really mind if something happened to this tub but it's going well (knock on wood)

Oh for sure I saw what could go wrong and how cocky and dumb that was to try for the first run, tbh if all my jars would have been at the same pace I would have (now I know is dumb to assume especially off a syringe) so I decided on multiple small grows before a big bulk
