My Russian friends empied out all my vodka a few weekends ago, so I bought a handfull of high end vodkas today to replace them - Grey Goose VX ($79.99), Beluga Gold Line ($99.99), and JCB ($119.99).

The JCB Vodka (Burgundy, France) EASILY won my tasting tonight.  Though I'm a rum guy, and I recommend Ron Centenario Real ($299.99 Costa Rica) and Diplomatico Ambassador ($249.99 Venezuela) rums over all other spirits, you MUST try the JCB if you're into vodka.

EASILY the best vodka I've ever had.

Let me know your vodka favorites if you have any, as I'd like to compare.

I am in a minority on the shroomery, as I frequently defend the opposing side when they have a point about something or when my side make believes something about them.  I also attack my side if I think they're wrong.  People here get very confused by that and think it means I prefer the other side.

Something like this(after a date/ time is scheduled, in a restricted thread set up by Enlil):

1. Fal lays out burden of proof/ opening statement.

2. Enlil lays out opening statement.

3. Judge will ask one clarification if needed, from both Enlil and Fal.

4. Main Arguments. Fal will start Enlil will follow. No more than four sources cited, with one source denoted as the strongest aid to their arguments. Each respondent will get a chance to ask up to three questions of the other(one question at a time, alternating between each party), after both have provided their arguments.

5. Any clarification or questions about the content of the proposed arguments, will then be asked by the judge, no more than two questions for each.

6. Give the judge up to two days  for the ruling, as it will take some time and brain cells to ponder this.

This is a much needed break of format for this forum. I think the above rules will streamline and aid whomever is the judge, as both sides are gonna bring it.

This vodka is only available at the finest of low-income area gasoline depots and grocery stores.  Truly a unique taste for any discerning pallete.

I think the only fair way to do it is to limit the thread to three participants.

The first posts would be made by the person with the burden of proof.  For stories you claim to be fake, that would be you.  When we switch to an RT story, that would be me.  In this first step, which could take multiple posts, you would present everything that you believe to be relevant and probative to the issue of whether or not the story is fake.  You can link/quote outside sources to your heart's content.  When you have completed your argument, you simply let me know.  I will not interrupt in any way.

Step two would be rebuttal.  In this instance, that would be where I post a rebuttal to the evidence and argument you've provided.  I will follow the same rules you did. You will not interrupt until I have finished, and the judge has posted his opinion.  I will let you and the judge know when I'm done.

After that, the judge would decide based solely on what is in that thread.  He/she would not consider personal knowledge, bias, or anything outside of the evidence and argument we've presented.

No one else would post in the thread except you, me, and the judge, until the decision is posted.  I can enforce this by making the thread have specific permissions and then removing those limitations after the judge has rendered his opinion.

Fair?  I'm just trying to come up with what I think is the best way to do this.  If you guys have other ideas, I'm open.  We could also go back and forth a set number of times and then let the judge decide.  In any case, I think it has to be just two of us arguing, though.

Ok, fine.

Since we have a judge, we won't need to keep going back and forth like we did before.  I'll make my argument, you rebut, I'll rebut, you close.  Done.  Judge decides.

John Oliver said:
In the absence of solutions, Maduro has reached for the next best thing... blaming someone else....  Ok so, here's the thing there - America has undoubtedly done some awful things in Central and South America. We backed coup attempts, juntas and atrocities in Chile, Argentina and Guatemala.  But refreshingly, what's happening in Venezuela is actually not our fault.  Accusing America of creating Venezuela's crisis is about as fair as accusing OJ Simpson of murdering Princess Diana.

But the US does share blame in Venezuela's crisis.  We've had entire threads about US intervention in Venezuela, but I'll keep this to only one point to make it abundantly clear.

Trump passed sanctions in August 2017 that targeted Venezuela's oil and banking industries, critical components of Venezuela's economy.

Trump Imposes 'Strong, New Sanctions' on Venezuela
Quote:
The United States on Friday forbade any dealings in new Venezuela debt or equity in Washington's latest move to pressure the repressive government of President Nicolas Maduro.

An executive order, signed by President Donald Trump, bars U.S. transaction with Maduro's government and the PDVSA state oil company.

According to US News & World Report
Quote:
The Rubio/Trump strategy seems to be to try to worsen the economic situation and increase suffering to the point where either the military, or the insurrectionary elements of the opposition, rise up and overthrow the government.

These sanctions cut off Venezuela from billions of dollars of potential loans, as well as from revenue even from its own oil company in the U.S., Citgo. They have worsened shortages of medicine and food, in an economy that is already suffering from inflation of about 3,000 percent annually and a depression that has cost about 38 percent of GDP.

If you don't trust US News & World Report, Trump's own press secretary admitted
Quote:
These measures are carefully calibrated to deny the Maduro dictatorship a critical source of financing to maintain its illegitimate rule.

Yes, Maduro has some blame.  But let's not believe John Oliver that the US is not to blame for Venezuela's crisis.

The hyperinflation. The collapse of oil production. The food shortages. The flight of capital and citizens. All of these things preceded sanctions.

From 2013 to 2016, the value of Venezuela’s oil exports cratered from $20 billion to $6 billion. All this occurred before US sanctions against the  oil industry started in Q3 2017. In fact revenue has not decreased in the intervening 18 months.

while not speculating with regards to their not increasing production as prices increased
does this basically make Venezuela into Saudi Arabia's fault for crashing global oil prices?

If that's the standard, we have as much or more to do with that anyway, being the world's leading petroleum producer.

was that before or after the Saudi crash?
am interested, as Canadian news made a lot of coverage over lost jobs in the oil patch because of dropping oil prices in the crash
with focus being on Saudi Arabia rather than the US
and we have still been politically buddy-buddy with the States and trying to send down pipelines of crude oil over the past few years
despite citizen protests

I know the US shuddered plants much like CA did. Production was full bore right up until the price crash though, and a big part of the crash was due to over production. I’ll note, I lived in Calgary for a while and am extremely familiar with the oil biz there.

Yeah, but the news up here had portrayed the crash as happening because the Saudis expressly increased oil production to crash the market
on the basis of forcing the US to use their own reserves instead of draining the middle east dry and having the world's last oil in their borders
(there may be portions of this where the Fallout timeline is polluting my view of realworld events )

but that led to problems for Canada as being so export dependent which caused losses in the Alberta oil patch

there is still animosity towards the Saudis in a lot of regards up here
with citizens complaining about our use of Saudi oil while the government is still in turmoil with the Saudi government over women's rights
including us taking in a very high profile refugee fleeing Saudi Arabia

it would be interesting to get a broader sense of how much of this is caused by the initial burst of propaganda
and how that informs the Canadian political strife with Saudi Arabia, compared to the US being on astoundingly good terms with the prince

There's a difference between "having to do with" and "fault", however.  Unless our production of petroleum was intended to cause the crisis, that's not really something you can place blame for.  Same goes for Saudi Arabia, of course.  All human conduct causes burdens for other humans.  I'm pretty sure John Oliver wasn't saying that the U.S. operates in a bubble and does not cause problems for other countries by our actions.
