Mono Progress question
    #25874584 - 03/14/19 07:35 PM (5 years, 15 days ago)

This is Day 9 . Unmodified 32q
To me it looks good. Not sure how colonized it is but I just flipped the lid (figured cause its super dry here and cool) and notice the coir drying out ever so slightly.

Do I keep the surface wet with droplets of water? At what point do you start misting?

Give it time. Looks good. You can lightly mist if the sub surface looks dry

I've lightly misted thank you. I'm going away for a few days. Will be interesting.

How far along is this? When should I see pins?

After 2 days I noticed a few spots that don't look like growth I've been accustomed to seeing on cakes/agar/grains.

Could this be mold? Its very "White" and doesn't look like mycelium. It really stands out.

when I see dense white coloration ( denser and whiter than the rest of the mycelioum ) on the surface of my monos    most of the time it turns put to be green mold :frown:

I hope thats not the case for you , but keep an eye on it before it turns super green, good luck  :mushroom2:

How long does it usually take for the trich myc to turn green.

The spots are not getting bigger but the tub is getting a lot more spots.

It looks fine to me. Is it just straight coir or have you put any shit in with it or anything?

With just coir it's highly unlikely to be contamination.

Droplets should naturally form on the surface as it gets fully colonised. As you notice the droplets evaporating you will need to replace them by spraying.

If you're noticing the coir drying already then you have too much FAE so you need to reduce that. Spray any dried out coir so that the mycelium can colonise it easily.

just coir.
I've been lightly misting but still drying out. also the mycelium looks wet and matted down at the same time.
odd

Well this thing has done nothing really in a week. Basically looks the same as the first picture.
Has this stalled?

Update - Pins. but side pins.

I've been lightly misting 2 times a day to keep the uncolonized coir on the surface from drying out.
There are no beads of water forming on the surface by nature. If I over mist a tad the water doesn't bead up, it just matts down the mycelium and looks wet.

I wonder if the coir was a tad under field capacity in the beginning.

To test field capacity I had nitrile gloves on, squeezed fairly firm and felt the coldness of the water on the gloves between my fingers. Squeeze a tad harder and saw water leaching out around my fingers and then a few drops. Sound correct but the coir seemed dry to a newb.

Can this be fixed and avoid more side pinning?

Edit
On further inspection the sides are starting to pull away from the container

Sounds like it is over field capacity.  This causes parts to not colonize. The matting is from over misting.

I've started to improve conditions on the surface but its too late to fix this?

Tempting. It doesn't look like it will stay together. The side pins are just as plentiful.
Its now pinning well on the top. I have a feeling it's goi g to run out of water.

I will get a pic of the top and sides.
