For a flowhood of course. I know NOTHING about these and I just wanna hear from someone who knows about these things. It's the cheapest one I can find, hopefully that's not an issue.

If your filter is clogged you'll know long before the gauge tips you off. Imo absolutely useless. Test flow with a simple lighter or buy an anemometer accurate enough for measuring less than 90fpm

It's not useless. For one thing if the gauge is bouncing that indicates you are not getting laminar flow and have turbulence. The gauge should be butter smooth under laminat conditions. It can be used to indicate many problems. It can tell you when your filter is actually used up. It can tell you if you have any leaks. But the main use is to know when the filter is actually used up and if there is any turbulence.

But that link is just the flush mounting kit, not the magnehelic gauge. You don't really need the flush mounting kit, you can easily mount it flush just by wedging it in a hole.

If you do get one get the model 2002 the 2" range magnehelic. It's not a necessary tool by any means but it is a good tool.

The fan type usually are not accurate at those low of flow speeds. The hot wire type are more expensive but deal with low speeds like 50-100fpm well.

Well damn. I guess a different anemometer just took precident over the magnehelic gauge for now. You fuckin guessed spot on that I got the fan type.

Even many of the hot wire type are not REALLY accurate. Most of the ones at less than $500 are +/- 10% + 5 fpm. Not super duper useful for a range we are trying to measure. I thought I had found a cheap vane type, the manufacturers pdf said it was accurate to 3% but after I bought it the instruction book said it was 3% plus 40 fpm :/ lol

check the specs on the hotwire type you are looking at before you assume it's real accurate.

The most accurate and "reasonably" priced hot wire I have been able to source is the GM8903 from china which claims +/- 3% + .001 digit. But it sounds kinda too good to be true for $146. The 4330 Traceable is the most accurate I have found at +/- 1% + 1fpm but it's $$

This thread started about magnehelic gauges and turned into anemometer discussion.
Damn those prices. It would be cool to rent one lol (dream dream dream dre-e-e-e-eam)
Now I'm starting to think what's better, lighter method or my 20 dollar fan style anemometer? I'll look through the manual tomorrow to see what it claims but today I've been too damn sick to get outta bed. Put in a lot of reading today on this forum fellas.

For low price a vaneometer would work fine and they're accurate at lower velocities like thermal anemometers. Regardless no one uses manometers and their hoods work just fine. People don't even use anemometers either. If you want one for whatever reason or desire go for it. But it's like buying a yacht quality navigation system for a Honda Civic.
