Pressure cooker with no gauge?
    #3050904 - 08/26/04 12:20 AM (13 years, 1 month ago)

Today I went thrifting for some gear after I read to look in thrift stores for pressure cookers and humidifiers. Holy shit there were quite a few of both. I nabbed a pretty big ultrasonic for $5. I also found a plethora of pressure cookers with no gauges. The first store I went to had one that was $2, but it didn't have a gauge on the top, only a little hole where the gauge goes on (i think). So, I went to a bunch of other stores and had the same problem. Bunch of cookers, just no gauges. I was wondering if I could buy the thing anyway and maybe just let the thing cook for awhile and hope it's at 15psi, or maybe hook up a tire gauge or something to it to measure pressure.

Any ideas, or is this thing useless without the pressure gauge?

Check out Home Depot or something. They might have some pressure gauges

I had the same dilemma. I went to Bed Bath and Beyond, which had the biggest selection of pressure cookers, and really none of them had a gauge. I found out that usually the ones with the pop up have them pop up at 15 or 12 psi, a perfectly good measurement, and therefore perfectly good for sterlizing: just count off from when the thing pops up.

Is that 2$ american money? That about the price of a bottle of pepsi, so I dont recommend you buy that. Theres no free lunch. I spent 60 bucks for mine.

Heres the advice of a recent newb, and i think most would agree with it. Budget: 30 bucks for Vicks cool mist humdifier; 60 bucks for pressure cooker; 30 for 24 half pints; 50 for syringes; and 30 for verm, perlite, and tubs. Save up 200 bucks, and you are absolutely set. If all goes well, that 3 to 7 ounces of dried shrooms.

The amount of shrooms you can make is only limited by how committed you are, how much space you have to grow, and how smart enough you are to follow the TEK directions verbatim. And the 2nd grow; you reuse the humidifier, jars, tubs, and PC. So you only spend about 60 bucks each new grow. My point: DONT HALF ASS IT. NEVER feel tempted to do such things as hook up a tire gauge to a pot, because it will never work. Just spend the small amount of money it takes, or be disappointed. If you dont cut corners, everything will work out as planned.

(PS. I just read how you were looking in thrift stores, so I guess 2 bucks might be reasonable there. I suggest you try to find some specs of the product online. If its a 50 dollar PC new, you are set. I hate to judge things by price, but I think thats how they go.)

Best of luck.
