    #5551931 - 04/24/06 06:28 PM (17 years, 9 months ago)

when the pressure on my PC gets high (around 15-20ish) the gauge sticks and i have to tap it with a fork or something to get it to move. what can i do besides buying a new one?

have you tired hitting it... really hard???

or you can buy a replacement. go to the website of the manufacturer and look for a replacement gauge.. or fig out the thread size where it screws in and buy a after market one.. i just got one for my 40 year old PC so I'm sure you can find one

The gauge is suppost to be calibrated every couple years...

or replaced.

I replace mine every couple years rather than pay Branom Instrument Co. to calibrate my gauges...
sometimes the calibration cost is close to the cost of a new gauge.

Another tip to make the gauge last much longer is to get it away from the heat. You can get one of these loops at any local boiler/pipefitting shop. They didn't have the 1/8' npt size of the gauge, so I used 1/4" npt and reducing bells. This keeps the pressure gauge at nearly room temperature. The one I am using is a cheapie air tank gauge, not a steam one because it's no longer exposed to heat. It only cost six bucks.

tahts a great idea, but i cant even get my gauge off lol. i used a wrench and it just barely moves, but it can only go so far because teh corner of the gauge digs into the lid of the PC. its pretty annoying. i already scratched it trying to get it out, and i dont want to to any more damage.
