Re: 5 different strains - WBS new grow 2019 [Re: ShaperDreaming]

Does anyone know where I can get actual Psilocybe Cubensis mushroom stickers / vinyl / posters (not the chemical makeup)? All I can find that is close is Amanita Muscaria. Been looking all over eBay / google shopping / Etsy but can’t find exactly what I’m looking for.

Started sticker bombing my PC and my toolbox

So I’ve got the next two bins mixed: B+ and Mazapatec, everything’s looking / smelling good :mushroom2:

I also think I have identified the first contamination from one of my Cambodian jars, which was using one of the new lids I bought, which is unfortunate... :frown: I have moved that jar far away from the healthy jars, just in case, to see if it has a chance. Doubtful based on what I see. I have taken a picture of each side of the jar so you guys could look at it and let me know.

I’ll luckily still be able make the last and final bin out of the remaining 4/5 jars. I’m still very happy with the results so far! Let me know what you think

Those jar/s (not sure if it's different or the same) are bacterial. It looks like they may have been a little too wet. This could have happened either when prepping the grains, or when pressure cooking. The main key for me on identifying bacteria is the wet look where the myc is very avoidant of those area. Good catch.

Sometimes jars that are a little bacterial are ok to spawn and usually have good results, but that's often when the myc still can colonize the grains most of the way. This looks likely beyond saving.

The funny thing is, I left one jar with one of my new lids on without aluminum foil before I PC’ed it to test to see if those lids don’t need aluminum foil while PC’ing. I should have labeled it but I forgot, but I bet this is that jar. the weird thing is, my usual contamination is usually a bacterial contamination and I’m trying to taking steps this year to avoid that. Any input would be valuable from people that prep grains as spawn.

Also, I changed my method of grain prep this time. I let the grain set in the strainer for 3x as long as I normally do before jarring it. Thanks for checking in. Yes, I think things are moving along swimmingly!

Bacteria loves warm wet places. Try not to let your temps get too high, and aim for the dryer side. Boil slightly less, dry longer.

I usually separate the bird seed first by dumping in a bunch of seed in the largest bowl I have, then filling to almost to the top with water, then stirring and draining off the dry or empty seed off of the top (and I do that at least 5 times until I see no floaters) then I soak the seed + 8 cups coffee + a handful of gypsum per quart of spawn in a 5 gallon bucket for 24 hours.

After that I put it in a pot on the stove and get it to simmer, then I take it off and let it strain for at least 30 minutes (I think this is the step I was messing up in my past grows). Then I start to jar and pressure cook for 90 minutes at 15 PSI.

Thoughts, ideas?

Ok, I have the contaminated jar disposed of. I first turned off the AC, then took a fan and turned it on low, pointed it outside the sink window (the closest to the infected jar), then I took the lid off and scraped the infected spawn out with a spoon into the garbage disposal which remained on until I was done, then I cleaned the jar / lid with soap + water.

I bought new lids for the rest of my jars, since I loved them so much

Looking good! *Interesting* updates hopefully next week!

Here’s a nice sized blunt that we rolled last night with an Acid green candela leaf cigar wrap. I also just got a handed down grinder! I literally blacked out in the middle of the second blunt. I was drinking some Chardonnay but this morning I was asking myself, WTF happened last night?

It’s some goooood smoke!

So it’s day 10 for the Golden Teacher and Amazon bins, and before I took off the lids I created a failsafe way to insure these cheap Chinese LED lights are not only just extended, but always plugged in on the AC connector. I did this because in the past with repetitive plugging and unplugging the connector just wore out. Since I have 5 different bins and I’m either going to stack them or line them up side by side together, I figured it would be easier to just buy 5 identical 6 foot extension cables. I have them labeled with masking tape and secured with 3 zip ties:

I’m going to plug them all into a power strip, then put this timer on them for a 12 hours on / 12 hours off effect with no intervention:

I then tried to prep some polyfill for the bottom holes based on your suggestions. *Pretty Please* give me input on this, because I’m absolutely positive that this is a place that I need schooling on. 🤫I also found 3 rolls of wide micropore tape in my downstairs bathroom storage, if I decide to go that route.

Finally, when I opened the bins, although everything seems healthy, it looks like I have a few days to go until ready for fruiting, thoughts? I held off on the polyfill / micropore tape since they didn’t seem ready to me. I’m hoping by the time they are ready, I’ll have a for sure plan on polyfill vs micropore tape. (Artwork provided by my assistant lol)

Another random update, I’m always trying to upgrade my process so I went ahead and bought a new Javelin digital thermometer and a legit food sealer 🤙

Looking forward to hearing input on this last post! I hope everyone is having a great weekend so far!!!

Peace and Love

Well it’s a bittersweet day - the last bin has been made! My new thermometer was essential for this one. So now I know that I’m just going to be waiting impatiently for them to be ready to fruit. I’m still extremely happy with the way everything has worked out so far!

Here are some pictures from last nights mixing. I have a fat cat named Bodhi, hense the “Cambodhian” on the tub lol:

Does anyone have any opinions on when to start misting? I’ve been trying to avoid bacterial contaminations as much as possible this year, and I usually soak it good before letting it colonize, but this year I didn’t spray any water after mixing spawn / substrate.

I spent several hours washing the inside and outside (with a magic eraser) of my jars and lids then sanitized and dried in the dishwasher yesterday. I’ve still got several 1/2 quart jars of B+ that honestly I don’t know what to do with, so not all of the jars are present. They look shiny and new!:

Well it was day 10 on the B+ and Mazapatec bins. Looking much further along than the Golden Teacher and Amazon bins. I’m seriously having fun with this project!

I had 6 “extra” 1/2 quart B+ jars so I decided to try an experiment. I’ve been cleaning a lot recently and found an OXO sealable container. I cleaned it with soap and water then rubbing alcohol. All 6 jars fit in it and I’ve got micropore tape around the entire container plus the top part that seals / unseals it:

Amy ideas what I should do with this extra spawn?

After my bins are fully consolidated, do I wait another week or so or just immediately put into fruiting?

I neglected to give you guys updated pictures for each bin! I thought I was dealing with a contamination in my Amazon bin and didn’t want to provide an update until I was sure. But we have determined through the contamination forum and with constant monitoring, it’s just weird looking myc ( https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/25898133 ). Everything seems heathy with all 5 bins to date!!!

Some of these photos are a couple of days old but I’m stoked!!! I’m thinking the Amazon and Golden teacher bins should be ready to fruit in 7-10 days. BTW the blueish looking stuff in some of the pictures is the shadow of my hand while taking the picture

Golden Teacher:

B+:

Mazapatac:

Cambodian:

My buddy has the perfect closet for them and we finally got everything moved there late yesterday. I had to go over with a vacuum and cleaning supplies a few days ago to help get the place clean enough for my standards. The bins aren’t on the floor, and since there are 5 shelves - each bin has it’s own shelf! The blobs that you see on the front of bins are the extension cords for the LED lighted lids:

*HELP* 5 different strains - WBS new grow 2019 [Re: ihatethis]
    #25931644 -

*I need to know if my polyfill is good and my humidity / FAE level is good or if it needs adjustment. Please - anyone who can add any advice or input - that would be appreciated*

I post these not only to gain insight from you awesome people, but also as my reference for future use. I'm sorry about so many "bumps"?... It's been 11 days since the last post on this thread, so here goes:

Yesterday, I started fruiting my Amazon and Golden Teacher bins. Here are the bins, one pic with duct tape after colonization and one pic with the polyfill added after the duct tape was removed. I have not misted once, but I have fanned a couple of times over the last 2 days:

Amazon day 1: Amazon day 2:

Golden Teacher day 1: Golden Teacher day 2:

Here's what they look like from the outside of the bin with the lights on. I like how you can see not only the difference in the polyfiill thickness on the top vs. bottom holes, but also the difference in how precise the thickness per bin is during assembly lol:

Please let me know what you guys think - especially about the polyfill, humidity and FAE. Any help or input is always appreciated. Thanks guys  :cookiemonster:

*PINS! - a lot of them!* 5 different strains - WBS new grow 2019 - Updates 4-21 [Re: ihatethis]
    #25947656 -

So I finally have pins in my Amazon and Golden Teacher bins! I saw a few pins 3 days ago, and I held off to take a picture until yesterday. They looking hella busy in the center, and I'm expecting the sides to fill in over the next couple of days, hopefully.

Dayum!

Let me know what you think!

looks great!

i wouldn't expect those sides to fill in much in the pic you posted, that pinset looks pretty well established and ready to mature.

could be wrong though, hopefully i am

Well it's almost time for harvesting, and I couldn't be happier!!!

Wow, two days has really made a difference. Holy fuck this is the most mushrooms I have ever grown, especially on a first flush  :freewilly:

Amazon fruiting day 6:

Golden Teacher day 6:

Any tips on how to get the sides to grow in at the same time and consistency as the middle? I'm fairly positive it is an FAE issue, but as mentioned before I'm still trying to figure out the best way for FAE during fruiting. Again, any tips would be appreciated. You guys rock!

Let me know what you guys think!
