You have micelum growing on top of itself this isnt a good thing because you are jsut growing micelum. I put my jars in a perlite tarrarium right when they are almost 100 percent comonized and still puffy white micelum. Dead overgrown micelium wont grow you that much if it does grow at all it will grow from the bottom or sides of the cake. Your best bet to make due with what you have is make a casing. You will get far better results than if you try putting those cakes in a tarriarum.

If you're following the PF tek, I don't think you should have heat the jars. According to PF, this causes a "drying" effect in the cake, which is not good since the mushrooms need water to fruit. (especially the PF Race)

When you first start to get pins in vitro, they'll look like white blobs, or almost little white balls. Then, some of these balls witll develop a brown or reddish-brown tip or dot. After a few days, this blob will start to lengthen and grow. If you have any cakes at 100% colonization, I would go ahead and birth and apply either the double-ended casing tek on the PF website or the Drinking Straw tek if you're growing the PF race. Other races like b+, equador, TC, double-ended casing tek.

As far as your slowly colonizing jars go, is there any visible moisture inside the jars?
If so, then maybe you just need to tap the jars (lid down) on a countertop to break the cake loose from the bottom of the jar. loosen the lid a 1/2 turn or so, just somewhere between loose and tight, and store the jars upside down for a while and see if it doesn't pick up.

Hope you find something helpful in all that.

Good Luck.

Hey PsilOwiz:

I thought you were only suppose to do the double sided casing tek on your second flush?? I'm getting ready to put my jars in the terrarium for birth as we speak and am confused as to what I should do. It is my first time, and people have told me to just put the cakes on a jar lid and let them grow, and not to worry about casing. But it seems like what your saying is its good to put moist verm on bottom and top of your cakes as you put it in the terrarium......is that right. Please clear this up for me if you don't mind. Thanks

Yeah, under normal circumstances, and assuming you're growing the PF (Matias Romero) race. There's no real need to do the double ended casing tek until your first flush is through. I recommended that Funky1 use it out of the jar because I suspected that his substrate might be dry. (Just a guess, but it is a possibility.) In that case, he might be able to save the cakes by rehydrating them, which is what the double-ended casing tek is all about.

Oh yeah, and PappaKaps, the invitro pinning tek is only applicable to the PF race. Some races that PF sells need casing at birth like the TC and the B+ and the Equador.

Hope that helps.

Psilo"wiz", what the fuck are you talking about man? You don't have to case B+'s or TC's, all cubensis strains will fruit off cakes. It really pisses me off when people start giving advice when they don't know jack shit. And about the "heating" issue, it is ALWAYS a good idea to incubate your jars, no matter what tek you are following, provided the heat stays below 90 degrees. Keep your fucking mouth shut if you don't know what the hell yoru talking about!

Funky, listen to me.. just grow off the cakes. Take the cakes out once they are 100% colonized, place them in a terrarium and wait. It is a good idea to let the terrarium just be room tempature, cause that helps pinning. If you have cased.. you want to start the steps for pinhead initiation when you can see a little mycelium growing up through the valleys of your casing. Lower the temp, introduce light (12 on/12 off), and add a source of constant filtered gas exchange (air pump, computer fan etc).

BUT MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL: DONT LISTEN TO PSILOWIZ!

I think what PsilOwiz MEANT to say (and what PF says) was that yes, invitro primordiation generally only aplies to PF/Matias Romero. The other races need to be birthed at about four weeks, instead of waiting for pinheads.

Hey vivid, you fucking arrogant asshole, you know what pisses me off? Fucking piece of shit little loser pricks like you who not only DON"T KNOW WHAT THE FUCK THEY"RE TALKING ABOUT, but pre-pubescent punk-assed pimple faced bastards like you with a chip on their shoulder. So what's up with the 'tude, bro? Mommy not give you enough attention? All I was doing was trying to help this fellow with his question. He's obviously using the PF tek. The advice I posted is solid for that tek. If I don't know the answer to a question, I won't post a bullshit answer. I just happen (obviously) to know more than you about the printed material for the PF Tek.

I'll tell you what, vivid, if you ever bother to read the PF tek, you'll find all of the information I posted for pappakaps here, and I have found it to work best in my experience as well with certain strains.

Sure, these strains may grow fine off the cakes without casing, but you'll definately get a better flush if you follow the casing instructions for that race. I've grown them all, asswipe.

So, vivid, why don't you get off daddy's computer looking at all the gay kiddie porn, stay off the shrooms sites, because your attitude shows me that you have no business on them, crawl back in the corner and get on the see and say until you're mature eough to use a computer. Fuck You!

To everybody else in the room: My apologies, but this dill-weed pissed me off.

HEy White_Rabbit, thanks for your help, but I said what i MEANT to say.

1 PF will pin invitro, the other strains most likely will not.

2. Case your equadors, tc's, b pluses on their birthday for the best fruiting. As I told Funky here, sure you may grow a shroom or two without casing these strains, but if you want a fat flush, case them.

Now, if somebody has anything to say about that, and wants to be nice about it, I'll discuss it, but vivid here has made me lose my temper and do something I hate doing....you wanna fuck with me, vivid?! Come on cheese=-head.

Well, vivid, I never said you HAD to. All I said was that you need to. And you do, unless you want wimpy-assed yields. As far as being a newbie goes, maybe I am. So what? I've played around with mycelium and substrates for a little over a year, using the PF tek all the way. In that year, I Might have lost 3 jars out of 100 or so to contams, and I've learned a lot about growing using PF tek. So if you ask me about the PF tek, I can tell you anything you wanna know with total accuracy. I decide to share some of my admittedly limited knowledge with those less knowledgable than myself, and you attack me for it. You've got some kind of complex, man.

I'm not gonna get into a flame war with you over this BS. I'm weary of your incessant stupidity. I'm ignoring you from now on.

Good Day
