transgender/trans people are awesome. I really don't have an issue with anyone. just some attitudes some have.  I dislike closed minded and stubborn attitudes, unless they can reflect upon themselves and grow.

Not all transgender people are awesome. Yeah I said it, wanna fight?

I really dont have any hate for transgender people. I however dont like it when people stir the pot just to stir the pot. Some individuals really seem to get off on the whole victimization thing. Not to be misunderstood, there have been people legitimately victimized.

When you say you want to be treated like everyone else but then demand special treatment, you will find yourself at odds with society.

How I feel about transgender people is of no importance. I'm Cis, they are Trans, its on their plate, what matters is how THEY feel, not I.

What they feel is gender dysphoria and beig haunted by bigoted Cis people saying they should get real.

Thing is, "real" for them is the gender they feel inside which is not reflected by the outward appearance of their body. It pains them. What also pains them is the outside world being troglodytes about it.

Make all bathrooms for everyone, like the home bathroom, if there are creeps who can't handle that because of acting out against people of a gender they fancy (or dont fancy) then deal with. Half a century after ending racial bathroom segregation, end gender bathroom segregation.

They have the right to be as they are and behave and dress how they feel they must.

My approval for that isnt any more required for that as it is required for a woman to be allowed to wear pants.

De-troglodyte ourselves.

Mentally I am 6'5", but physically I am only 5'7". It pain me to be considered short or average height, but I do not cry about it and I will not spend 100s of 1000s of dollars on surgery on order to gain a few inches. I am not ashamed of who I am. A height is just want. It does not change who I am.

R U Napoleon?
a 'short' man who is speculated to have used that as motivation to become larger than his individual life
possibly even influenced by how classic works of art would portray rulers as giants in reflection of their power over society

but jokes aside
really like your selection of height as an example
as despite your comfort with your height, there are a lot of men who would hold negative views of themselves solely for being your height
influenced by factors dictated by society (ie: the idea that tall men are attractive to women by default while short men are not)

height itself is a really loaded topic for both genders
and personally find it interesting, because my height went from a point of indifference to me to becoming a point of gender euphoria for me
and that seems to be reflected in social expressions of the values of height

you being comfortable with your height is cool and respectable
and to bring it in line with the thread topic, there are transpeople who do not feel dysphoric over their bodies and social experiences
but not being dysphoric does not make them less trans
gender dysphoria is a mental illness that commonly coincides with the experience of being trans
but is not a prerequisite
and it may even be possible for me to argue that there are increasingly cis men who experience gender dysphoria
because of social ridicule and pressures of being male in society

for me, my penis is too large
could prolly feel more feminine with a smaller penis
but dysphoria hits me throughout the day in instances like using the bathroom
if my penis brushes against the toilet bowl while sitting and doing my business
it makes me feel disgusted from a germs/OCD perspective and causes me to need to shower and clean myself right after
but also makes me feel disgusted over hyper-awareness about having a large penis, with larger penises considered to make their bearers more masculine simply by their presence
and also makes me incredibly frustrated as the practice of tucking in order to wear socially feminine clothes is outside of viability for me

Thinking you're something/someone you're not?

I don't have anger towards mentally ill people,  but I don't want legislation passed protecting the rights of people whobdont deserve them if they are mentally impaired and those rights might culminate in personal injury

Disagree,
Canada needs to pass legislation allowing me ownership of firearms despite being mentally ill e.e
being denied the right to protect myself out of concerns it may instead lead to my personal injury or suicide is a bunch of bullshit

Well, gender dysphoria is not uniform across transpeople, but it is a form of mental illness
and despite not being successful for everyone, transitioning has a higher rate of success in getting rid of gender dysphoria than other avenues currently being explored and tested

from that angle, it is not self-mutilation as it is mitigated through health professionals; Canada also allows physician assisted suicide and we treat that as situationally valid rather than the appalling reality of suicide that a younger/more physically healthy individual would represent
it is even difficult to argue it as body modification; the surgical interventions are so complex (literally the shaft of the penis gets inverted and the head becomes a clitoris, or for transmen there are matters of hysterectomy and penis assembly)
and there are additional involvements like requiring approved hormone therapy for several years before qualifying for surgery
as they have to be sure you can survive on artificial hormones after the removal of the means of generating your own

as an aside, this is the factor that may actually keep me from undergoing bottom surgery in the end
am fine with the concept of taking hormones for the rest of my life
but fear that it would mean my body would get all fucked up not from just radiation in the event of apocalypse
:biggestnuke:
but from subsequent loss of accessibility to medical services and artificial hormones

it is more akin to body modification than self mutilation tho
which interests me, as remember going through the bmezine website in high school
and there were literally people who would split their penis in half or cut off the head and play with it
despite them being self-identified as men
and often also quite jacked up and tattooed all over
so the line is already blurry

but as a transwoman, am not looking to mutilate my penis
it frustrates me for reasons of evacuation and clothing
but have never had the desire to just slice it up and watch it bleed like with my arms and legs in my self mutilation phase

but the matter of "Thinking you're something/someone you're not" has an interesting resonance to me
my mother has never treated me like a girl, and has had a difficult time adjusting to the idea of me being trans
but my parents did give me a gender neutral name at birth
so unlike an instance such as Bruce-->Caitlyn or Thomas James Gabel-->Laura Jane Grace
my transitioning does not necessitate my identifying myself as "someone else"

which then leaves only to the affair of "something" else
and that is not necessarily the case either; it is my ideal to be recognized as a woman (rather than a man or 'just' a transwoman) in the social sphere
but my recognition of myself is as a continuous individual
it is just an affair of understanding myself as a transwoman, rather than all the effort of decades of trying to match up to some concept of being a man

as a transwoman, some of my experiences are still distinct from cis women tho
will never get to experience gestating and birthing a child, my body can't do that nor be artificially made to do that
if motherhood is synonymous with womanhood, then my best expression of such would only be available to me through adoption, as it would with a sterile cis woman
this comes loaded with another reality -- despite the fact that it is feasible for me to experience sexual violence followed by physical violence as 'punishment' from a man
cis women have to deal with the reality that sexual violence is more likely to be accompanied by issues of unwanted pregnancy and having to potentially pursue abortion or adoption

so then what matters in assessment is, to what degree is transitioning causing me physical harm?
well, sterility is a side-effect of taking hormones; however, personally pursued vasectomy before ever finding out transpeople exist
and as was the case with vasectomy, in proper health care, going onto hormone therapy includes a precursor step of being referred to a clinic for  preservation services
will grow breast tissue that would just be sort of there and floppy if stopping taking hormones, so suppose there is a place for criticism in that

if my tits aren't big enough to satisfy me (as more frequently occurs with cis women than trans women)
then would silicone implants be body modification or self mutilation?
would there be a threshold for size that differs from cis women seeking to enlarge their breasts
was someone like Acidic_Sloth () practicing self mutilation when she sought breast reduction?

maximum rambling reminds me that meditating before sitting down and posting on the Shroomery really ought to be higher on my priority list x-x

*hits blunt* some real comments in here. So much energy defending and sharing “controversial views”. Let’s get baked, eat some Cheetos and Oreos and talk about the good things. Do people really care if someone wants to be called a male or female?

It’s pretty egocentric to not show respect to people’s wishes especially when the request is so simple. Who gives a shit? Personally, I don’t really care. Unless you want to be my friend and cook food for me.
