Is it OK for 2 separately married people of opposite sex
    #3008949 - 08/16/04 02:41 PM (12 years, 5 months ago)

to have lunch alone together if they're friends? Do you think this is appropriate or not?

Why not? What is the problem? Being friends with the opposite sex is off limits once you get married?

I am not married so don't listen to me but I don't think Trust shouldn't be an issue if you're married so what would the problem be?

Ok on this I have experience. I have a very good looking neighbor who lives across the street. Even though I find him attractive, when he and I go to lunch or a movie I never feel like I am going to jump on him or act inappropriately towards him. It just so happens we share a lot of likes and if you find someone married or not whom you share interests with I see nothing wrong with doing some stuff together as long as your intentions are pure.

That's exactly what I was thinking. If you can tell your husband, then there shouldn't be any problem with it. Plus, it won't matter if you get "caught" because he'll know you were just on an innocent lunch with someone.

--------------------
The very nature of experience is ineffable; it transcends cognitive thought and intellectualized analysis. To be without experience is to be without an emotional knowledge of what the experience translates into. The desire for the understanding of what life is made of is the motivation that drives us all. Without it, in fear of the experiences what life can hold is among the greatest contradictions; to live in fear of death while not being alive.

Oh this one is touchy..
There are several factors involved here. It depends on the past relationship of the two friends. It depends how often they want to "hang out". Oh and if your spouse thinks this is not something you should not be doing.. then u have to ask yourself is my marriage worth going out to lunch with this friend instead of talking with them on the phone. Oh and in my experience .. alot of these "friends" end up fucking your wife/girlfriend.

very true!

in my case, it would depend on what she looked like! My gf would freak out if i wanted to have lunch with any kind of hottie, but if she was ugly and fat my gf would have no problem with it!

i don't get it!

Well, MY spouse would know. The thing is, I don't know if this guy has any intentions other than friendship. I do like him AS A FRIEND and I am going to lunch with him next week, I have worked for him a couple of times, and have known him for a couple of years. We have mutual friends. I don't know his wife but have met her a couple of times. My husband is fine with me going to lunch with him, I just feel a teensy bit weird about it because I think he might "like" me. I guess we will see.....

All depends on the trust level.

OK, I guess the real question should be: in your opinion; is it OK, if you're married, to be friends with someone who likes you more than a friend?

If you feel uncomfortable don't go....or don't go alone, invite a mutual friend.

Good point! .. If it's just 2 friends having lunch.. make it 3 or 4 friends having lunch this solves alot of problems. 2 people going out for lunch alone.. sounds bit like a date to me, and may sound like that to someone that likes you for more then a friend.

If anything "funny" happens, either talk to him and drill into him that you are in this for friendship or LEAVE.

Yeah, that is what I think I will do.

All you guys and girls have good advice. I am not CERTAIN he likes me more than a friend but I kind of get that vibe. Anyway, he's a nice guy and I'd like to hang out with him here and there but I just don't want him to think I want an affair or anything, ya know?
