found in a cow pasture within a foot of a few week old poo pile next to but mot under a tree. there was soil in its roots and most the field was soil mot sand and its fairly dense with manure. the better of the 2 fruits im getting a good print from now. ill post up in the am

now that ive handled it a bit it does have a removable top layer on the cap as described by Stemates.

No offense, but not likely.
If you're referring to a separable gelatinous pellicle, the mushroom in your pictures doesn't have one.
You're more than likely just peeling the skin off the cap, which is different.
Which species described by stamets are you referring to?

This is the most beautiful specimen of p cubensis I have found in months. Nothing like the springtime monsters we all look forward to but still. A dense, solid fruit with intense bruising at the stem. I can tell from looking at it it is potent. One would feel this mushroom. I canโt wait to eat it, I wish I could eat it fresh but Iโm not tripping again for another week.

TI=trusted identifier. Look underneath docโs avatar. When one of these guys ids the mushroom in your pic you can be fairly confident in what they say, especially if theyโre identifying it as an active

nice! we went fri. night and found only one but it looks just like the one in your picture but a little smaller. didnt look like the 2 in my previous post. It turned blue as soon as it was picked. def a cube. purple spore print. it was the only one we found in an hours time. still need more rain I think.

Duggstar I compared it to the species you posted and it dose have qualities that resemble it. But it was about a foot from cow dung and maybe 30 ft from a dead tree out in the middle of the field. in short grass and it had sand in the base.
