me and my friends decided to go shroom picking the other night. none of us had ever done so before, and we had found a great spot here in central florida. we had a lot of fun, and we?re planning to try again tonight. i decided to post and see if i could get any good ideas on what kinds of mushrooms i?m looking for.
see, 2 of the four of us that went picking were experienced shroomers, that somewhat knew what they were looking for. we all went online before to sort of ?study? which ones grew in this area, this time of year, etc., but we couldn?t really find anything that descriptive. just wondering if there is anyone on here familiar with the types of shrooms that grow here this time of year? any info would be graciously appreciated (and might save a night of poisionus mushies).

update:
we went hunting last night and just decided to pick all we could find that looked legit. we found many mushrooms that looked like a freshly baked cake on the top(brownish, with some lighter cracking), underneath they were a yellow color when fresh, but after handling they stained blue (sort of greenish-blue on the yellow gills). this morning when i checked on those, the tops look the same but the staining has caused the gills to turn a sickly dark greenish/brownish. we also have a few other different species, none of which are at all dark underneath.
i've read all i can find online, and i have yet to identify them. i don't think we'll be eating these shroomies :[
the question above still stands though-- anyone?? :]

Do the mushrooms with the yellow "gills" actualy have gills or is it more like a sponge, with a bunch of pores?

thanks for responding! we had picked one mushroom with the spongy stuff underneath. it looked so strange to us that we threw it out. but the ones i'm describing above were actual yellowish gills that stained dark.
the ones that we picked last night we decided that we should not eat. however, i'm still not sure what types i am looking for...?

In Central Florida you'd be looking for Psilocybe cubensis and Copelandia cyanescens... We'll there are others, but those would be the most common.
