Dealing with Pests THREAD
    #25820428 -

So one area I am lacking at in proficiency is insecticide.  After having an abnormal reaction with cannabis due to neem (many years ago so the blood thirsty DEA/Cops don't get excited).  Neem oil can have bad reactions with cannabis, even though 'organic'.

My cactus never needed insecticide because they always had a nice white film on the skin (that's natures insect repellent).  I have wondered about harvesting this white film (it's not a mold) from weeds.  As this area of weeds has not been investigated, to my knowledge.

I don't expect a lot of professional weed growers here like ICMAG.  As I don't really condone selling these allies.  There's too much profit involved in plant trafficking.  A lot of shady shit.

Feel free to add information here on what insecticide knowledge you have and would enjoy discussing.  Some plants are naturally resistant.  Outdoors I've didn't worry about bugs.

Diatomaceous earth has long been reported to be a good soil additive for dealing with soil born bugs.  We also use a mix of that for the barn.  It's good to mix in with straw for animal bedding.  Bugs get real bad in a barn.

So don't hold out.  Give me a good discussion on insects and how to deal with them.

Icmag got taken over by the dea about a decade ago.

I wouldn't post there, even if I still lived in a legal state.

What sort of reaction did you have to neem?

I hate the way it tatses when I can tell there are residuals on bud.

It was very abnormal.  It was home grown so I know it was nothing else.  My hands got very tight and crippled in a way.  It was like a seizure or something.  It wasn't that I was unconscious, I was more conscious.  But my hands were really really messed up.

It was a bad trance or something like that.

Ya Icmag those guys sell weed a lot.  They get very defensive about that.  Not that the DEA is worth a crap.  They don't seem to make a lot of cases.  People got this no talk thing going on.  So you really cannot trust a lot of street drugs and what people say they are.

Anyhow legal weed is coming.

DEA owns this site too.  Through backdoor channels.  That's why ya'll get so paranoid about the NSA.

Cops get paranoid about them too.  The NSA.

They don't usually care about small stuff, but the cops do.

Spinosad looks like good stuff.  It's a bacertia and good for the larva to kill them.  Not sure what the half life is.

If you are not one that cares if it’s organic or not ‘Bifen’ will kill the crap out of bugs and not hurt plants. It doesn’t stink like malathion.  It’s probably terrible for the human body and other non target bugs. Rancher at the local feed store recommended when I told him my property is solid fire ants...1 acre lot with over 100 established mounds and countless other hoards of refuge ants.

BT is a great organic choice. It works pretty well. Especially if you alternate with neem. I use it on everything except ant mounds.

I pretty much only use Bifen on fire ants.  Mist the mound then jet stream some into the center.
I also used it at my parents place when the mosquitos were horrible. It worked extremely well. But I feel terrible for the other bugs in the environment. Definitely do not use it in spring when the honey bees are hitting every flower and person in a bright shirt.

The house next to my parents is now what I called abandoned. I was mowing it last summer just to keep it looking not so shitty and the mosquitos down. The trash can next door had some rolled up carpet in it. One day I mowed by it and honey bees started attacking me. I hauled ass then abandoned the mower. I made a few calls and someone came and got the bees. No way was I going to kill them. I bought a bee keeping suit to get them myself but the fiancé talked me out of it. Maybe in a few years I’ll get a hive going. I love me some honey.
My brother in law captured a hive and had lots of free wild honey.

My mom thought about working with a guy to keep bee's at the farm.  I'm glad she didn't cause I find them pests, but enjoy honey.

Advion cockroach gel bait is really effective for cockroaches. I put dabs of it in the sink cabinets, cracks/crevices, base board areas.

Havn't had many insect problems. many lizards live in the greenhouse, so that's good, and i saw a praying mantis yesterday, good.
Ive been having 1,000s tiny eggs that appear on only one plant, piper auritum, but i never see them hatched or what is laying them.
They don't even hurt the plants, but i can't sell something covered in tiny eggs. and they don't wash off, and there are 10000's. 0000
What works is cutting plant way back almost to stems, new leaves grow before more eggs are laid, slowly removing mystery eggs.

...if anyone knows what these tiny, white/clear, sticky, eggs are.. and a better way to get rid of them, please let me know, thanks

Ive learned that you can grow a mold on wasp nests that is deadly for em, im thinking of spraying my nests with the li an let nature take its course when they return from the pit they flew out of.

I grow Piper Auritum too. I have not seen eggs on mine, I’ll look closer. Mine grows outside it’s more cold hardy than I thought. I need to transfer it to the ground as it’s exploding out of the 30 gallon pot.

What’s your preferred method of cloning them? I’m going to have to cut it back before I attempt to move it.

Lizards are abundant here, mostly the green anole and geckos.
I’ve thought about ordering some mantis egg sacks and hatching them

if necessary, gasoline will instantly kill wasp.. they are good for pest control and pollination though.
Quote:
Encarsia is used especially in greenhouses to control whitefly pests of tomato and cucumber, and to a lesser extent of aubergine (eggplant), flowers such as marigold, and strawberry.[72] Several species of parasitic wasp are natural predators of aphids and can help to control them.[73] For instance, Aphidius matricariae is used to control the peach-potato aphid.[74]

We got the same lizards.. geckos are a new species here.. i think, becuase i'd never seen any until about 10 years ago.
p. auritum roots pretty easily in cup of water, just cut below a node. Praying mantis and lady bugs would be a fun option.

you probably would had noticed if you got them.. they practically cover the plant, and Only p.auritum for some reason.

I keep forgetting about spinosad, thnx for the reminder!

Saw a bug in my grow cabinet I've never seen before which is always a shitty moment..

Looked like a fungus gnat but red and super slender set of long wings, basically seemed like it had no contour but just straight sides to its figure. And really tiny, smaller than a gnat even - had to look closely even with 10x binocular glasses

The damage becomes fairly obvious.

Outdoors I wouldn't worry much if it's cannabis.  I'm surprised salvia even made it this far.  Read only one garden in the world by one family had it growing when 'discovered'.
