Yup too many nutriments stop mycelium spreading across the plate..The reason it spreads is due to searching for nutrients..hence you need a nutrient mix low  enough to facilitate that..if its too strong it just sits there and either does nothing, or contaminates get there first

I'm not sure soyabeans will work I'd imagine they have a fair amount of protein in, whereas you want carbs..give it a try, but I wouldn't base your whole plan on it, maybe just knock a batch up once you have good growth on PDYA..also don;t use Marmite extract as it has too much salt..you want a good extract that is no added salt
