Exactly! Republicans were belligerently grandstanding, as Trump is doing now.

On both occasions they are putting thousands of people's lives on hold, as they withhold their paychecks. On both occasions, the outcome is inevitable. They are playing chicken, knowing they are going to lose, with absolutely zero regard for all of those people employed by the federal government. These people are just expendable pawns in a silly game.

We should all despise any politician who demonstrates such little care for their constituents.

Trump said most federal employees are democrats, seemingly implying that they don’t matter to him.

It is true that trump only got 4% of the vote in DC.

My brother-in-law who works for NIST voted for trump and has to work through the shutdown without pay

What difference does it really make?  Even $25 billion is a drop in the bucket for Federal government finances.

The idea that building a wall is too expensive is ridiculous.

How much was too expensive to spend on healthcare according to the Republicans? But that wasn't important like the wall.

we give mexico 5 billion
we give brazil 5 billion
we give money to these banana republics the CIA overthrew to make the people literal slaves
we have plenty of money for a wall
jus no one wants it, too much free labour coming in and the dem's see it as a barrier to new voters

the dems in cali are giving illegals drivers licences now
if that makes them get insurance maybe that's a good thing
most of them seem to drive without insurance and when they get in a crash the cops cant do anything

What a silly thing to say!

What ever happened to fiscal responsibility!?! lmao!

If we're gonna blow $25 billion dollars, I think that vast majority of Americans would rather it be spent paying down student load debt.

No, $25 billion doesn't make a dent into the $1.5 trillion student loan debt.

Border enforcement is the cost associated with having national sovereignty. If you don't want that expense, get rid of the existing borders.

It's a weak argument, I don't care what R's and D's didn't or did spend money on in the pass.

Border enforcement isn't free and if the current policy isn't working well, more resources need to be allocated to make sure that the border is being protected.

Ok, so let me get this straight. You're saying that we may as well just get rid of the boarder, if I don't wanna spend $25 billion dollars on your stupid fucking wall, that is essentially a symbolic wall, because it will have no effect whatsoever on immigration.

You know why Trump had to say Mexico would pay for it during the campaign trail? Because if he hadn't nobody would have supported it for one fucking second!

If you want to protect the boarder, fine.

What does that have to do with building a stupid fucking wall?

Even the D's have gone on record for border walls and increased border enforcement, so it's nothing new at all.

If the experts think a wall could work, that's fine. If they think there's a better way to enforce the border, that's also fine in my opinion.

Yeah, well I guess it worked great for East Germany lmao!

Who are these experts that think a wall 'could work'? We have motherfuckers sneakin shit into the country with submarines, and tunnels that can fit a semi truck.

If you think a wall can provide absolute perfection, your expectations are completely unrealistic.  Advocates of a wall aren't looking for perfection, they're looking for better border enforcement.

I was in Berlin three years after the wall came down, I can assure you it had a dramatic affect.

Those "experts" are border agents who work part of the border and have at least a high school diploma and as border agents have loads of stories about catching people.

There is a long list of successful walls though. The Great Wall for example is a particularly effective tourist destination. It failed as a wall though. Then there is the walls of The Alamo, which protected PeeWee's bike rather well. I could go on...

A high school diploma, you say? Oh, well I suppose that settles it!

I'm sorry, but your wall is a silly, childish idea. Conservatives really need to stop living in the fucking 1800's...

As I said earlier, the reason Trump said 'Mexico will pay for it' during the campaign trail, is because nobody would have ever supported it, had he suggested the United States tax payer ought to pay for it. He should make mexico pay for it, and get the government up and running again.

America doesn't want your fuckin wall, and we certainly don't want to fucking pay for it!

So why did the D's also support further wall and border enforcement?    It's about what's politically convenient at the moment, right?

There's nothing like cherry picking the issues contingent upon the environment.

I think you really need to get over this "conservative" vs "liberal" mentality, there's hypocrisy on every issue.
