I'm pretty sure Christopera has already elucidated a favorable solution to both of these.

That's wonderful, I'd love to hear these "favorable solution to both of these".

I'm pretty sure you've already read and responded to it. Basically, it was something along the lines of having companies sponsor their immigrant employees, and making those companies responsible for checking in on their employees, making sure that they don't overstay their visas, and making those companies accountable for the people they sponsor overstaying their visas.

Sounds like a cheap and simple solution. We could also make companies responsible for the healthcare of their immigrant employees. It may even reduce the financial benefit to these companies to choose foreign labor over American labor. This is really what you should be arguing for, qman.

Any answer that will garner bipartisan support to any degree, and achieve the same goals or greater, is the obvious choice.

Exactly, the idea is to disincentivize immigrant employment while charging those who create the problem to fix the problem. Done right, it would balance the cost of immigrant employment with that of employment of citizens, this would allow companies to bring talent to American soil when they needed it, but otherwise the process would be too risky to do that for the primary percentage of the work force. I think there would have to be stiff financial penalties for companies for overstayed or expired visas to make it work.

Really, what's the employer going to do when Julio doesn't come in to work and is no where to be found?

What level of accountability is the employer going have?

I have to be honest here, the whole concept is completely laughable. Employers are there to make money, not to be immigration enforcement.

If someone is found to have overstayed their visa, the employer will pay a 'stiff penalty', as Christopera has eluded. Actually, you should just read his post.

A way to keep track of these employees, is to mandate that employers keep a record of all of these employees, and that they are periodically reviewed by a government agency. If an employer does not want to deal with the process, then they should refrain from partaking in it. As Christopera has suggested, this would allow American companies to bring in talented individuals, who have some degree of credibility, while making unskilled American labor more competitive with their immigrant counterpart.

I'm fine focusing on the issues that actually matter, like AOC is trying to do, and not slamming her for no reason before she even gets started.

But hey, she's a dark skinned Puerto Rican woman, so maybe that explains why you're already so skeptical?

It's nothing against her personally, in fact the best of intentions will be squashed by the corporate establishment.

The change we need isn't going to come from the voting booth, it comes from people hitting the streets like they're already starting to do in the EU (Paris).

The US isn't likely to do the same because we're too divided of a nation.  The elite have done a great job on the peasants in the US, talk about destroying democracy.

Apparently you missed the occupy movement, and black lives matter. Taking to the streets isn't so easy anymore, with 'free speech zones' and tear gassing. Look what happened to the natives at DAP. The police were literally traveled across the country, gnawing at the bit to throw buckets of water on peaceful protesters in freezing weather.

And what do we do to employers who hire illegals and pay under the table?  NOTHING.

What about employers that use fake SS #'s?  NOTHING.

And then you're going to convince me that the government is going to "employer will pay a stiff penalty" when Julio goes missing?  Pure fantasyland.

Obviously if we were to enact such reglatory reforms, it would be imperative that we instate stiff penalties for companies who are caught employing illegals.

Your wall is fantasyland.

Many of the people against border enforcement hate the US and the current demographic levels within it.

If you believe the US was founded by racist white Europeans and that systemic racist system still persists today, you're totally open to destroying that perceived set of circumstances.

When arguments contain "laughable" and "fantasyland", they aren't arguments at all even if you are being honest, they are emotional responses.

Employers have all sorts of accountability. Let's start with accounting, the IRS for example. Nevermind Occupational Safety and Health, HIPPA laws, local state and federal laws. The list goes on and on.

Pick a few points and try to argue against them with some logic. Policy absolutely changes reality, the results are everywhere, and the voting booth absolutely changes policy. There's nothing wrong with a little nihilism, in fact I quite like that stance from certain perspectives, but it's total nonsense when it comes to politics and the here and now.

Quote:
(JTA) – The U.S. House of Representatives passed a measure that would codify into law the $38 billion defense aid package for Israel over 10 years that was negotiated in the final days of the Obama administration.

The U.S.-Israel Security Assistance Authorization Act of 2018 approved Wednesday gives the defense package the imprimatur of Congress, which would keep any future president from reneging. The $38 billion deal negotiated in 2016 is the most generous ever to Israel.

Senate Republicans’ first bill of the new Congress aims to insert the legislative branch into President Donald Trump’s Middle East policy — but also tries to drive a wedge between centrist and liberal Democrats over attitudes toward Israel.

The bipartisan package backed by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., had initially drawn widespread support ahead of Tuesday’s vote. It includes measures supporting Israel and Jordan and slapping sanctions on Syrians involved in war crimes. But Democrats are split over the addition of Republican Sen. Marco Rubio’s “Combatting BDS Act,” which seeks to counter the global Boycott, Divest and Sanctions movement against Israel over its treatment of Palestinians and the settlements.

yup. https://www.breitbart.com/border/2019/01/10/exclusive-photos-21-killed-in-mexican-cartel-battle-near-texas-border-17-burned/

OHHH shit BB has pics of the bodies. they look like spawn: crispy crunchy and blackened. dont ban me again

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/us-border-crisis-mexico-deaths-wall-bodies-found-dead-a8721311.html
Quote:
At least 20 people have been found dead near the US-Mexico border in Texas, with Mexican officials blaming a dispute between rival gangs.

Out of the bodies found, 17 of them have extensive burns an unnamed security official told Reuters. Another unnamed official quoted by the Associated Press said 21 bodies were found near a number of fire-damaged vehicles.

Mexico’s President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said the killings appear to have been part of a dispute between gangs.

Quote:
Despite the Mexico government’s successes in killing and capturing major drug cartel leaders since it launched a US-sponsored war against drug cartels in 2006, violence persists. The Congressional Research Service estimates that about 150,000 people have been killed in gang-related violence since 2006.

The highest homicide rate was recorded in 2017 with almost 29,000 people murdered in Mexico. However, it is expected that the 2018 statistics will see that record broken. In the first half of last year, Mexico saw a 16 per cent jump in homicide rates from the same period in 2017.
