Grim - so you think the greenhouse is ok for a fruiting environment?
I’ve been growing cannabis and gardening for years and it just truly made sense to me that mushrooms would thrive in here. My best bud is always organic and grown outside. Mushrooms are pretty different though
Guess I’ll find out!

Not ideal or the easiest way but it can be done with more attention given than just leaving it in a tub "dialed in" or unmodified.

I can vouch for what they are saying.  I’ve got an elaborate tent setup, and it’s a pain in the rear :smile:. I’m still working on getting it dialed in, but to his point, I recommend the HC with the lid upside down.  I’m doing that on my next one while I work on getting my GH tuned up...

If you want any type of yield. The GH will take much longer to get there...  my first cake made a whopping 9g wet....  which is 1g dry :smile:. I know, I’m a lame grower...

But I’m gonna get a hell of a lot better.

Humidity Chamber = HC
Martha is what I am calling a Greenhouse.

Check out my journal if you want to see my tent.  But searching Martha Tek on here will also show you.

If you want to learn about HC.  Then search here also.  You gotta use the search tools and figure stuff out. It’s complicated, but once you start you will figure it out.

Read a bit and then ask specific questions if you cant’t find the answers...

What mushrooms like are a nice humid environment with PASSIVE air flow.

If youve not grown them beforef in a standard setup id advise to do so before experimenting.


You can get a couple humidifiers an some clear plastic painting tarp, clothes line an tape to make a quick an easy greednhouse/hc.
Cubes dont need a gentle breeze like oysters of plants for healthy growth.

If you find place were algae an moss grow an wood stays moist you might have better luck if your pushing for complete open air  your gonna need to mist every 2-3 hours which will be a biiich if you have any sort of responsibility outside of the greenhouse.

I'd let them start to pin before even opening them. You open it too early you let other molds, fungus,bacteria in to colonize. You want to see the sub shink. That means nutrients has been metabolised and fruits will follow shortly after. Gl!

Seen people put them right in grow rooms. They both like the same temp, but the nasties that help herb grow attack myc. They'll fruit but infection is inevitable.

Sounds like you need to read up on the basics, my friend. Pinning is initiated by evaporation of moisture from the surface of the mycelium. That dome will help maintain RH which is essential for proper fruit formation and maintainence of moisture but will not help with FAE. Those holes on the top will but you'll have to adjust until you dial that thing in if it's even possible to get ideal growth conditions out of it. Ive never seen anyone put holes directly over the middle of a sub for air exchange, the cracks from slightly displaced tub lids are still technically oriented over the sides of the sub. Should be interesting to see how this results

Check out shotgun fruiting chambers, humidity chambers or monotubs and see what i mean and why these things are necessary. Im not saying your dome wont work but if it were the most successful and ideal container to use, everyone would be using it and that's not the case. Lemme know whatcha think

Tits on a Bull mentioned the substrate shrinking,
I have noticed that my substrate has pulled inward about a quarter inch from the walls of the tub. I thought it was weird until reading that post.
I’ve lost 3 of 4 tubs due to several things
1. I cased one tub with fresh horse manure I got from a horse stable and the colonized grain turned a gnarley pastel blue/green overnight.
2. Handled one too much and saw blue mold.
3 broke one in half due to my “ bulk tub birthing “ idiocy. My dog ended up eating that mass out of the garden I tossed it in to compost.

But the one tub I have left is BEAUTIFUL, it looks very healthy, lots of thick white mycelium and bumpy root like areal myc ( I think ). And recently the shrinkage ( I think )
Hope I can at least pull a small flush from this one- it has payed off not fucking with it.

Side note I was pretty bummed out about the horse manure not working, I had to sneak into a stable at night and shovel it. A bit surprising really- I’ve seen many mushrooms growing on cow turds out at our old farm.

I can’t believe it, I came back from vacation to find a bunch of primordial fellows! I had a buddy coming over and misting, the casing layer was pretty dry, I’ll attach some pics of areas that seem suspect ( looks a little grey ish in some small places ) but overall I can’t believe that mushrooms are growing.
Thanks to all for the advice, I’ll take it into consideration next go round!

Yep, those are pins, and more likely than not, there are a lot more pins on the sides of the tub than on top. Don't mess with the tub because of this. Just keep doing what you're doing, and you should see at least 5g dry out of this tub.

Raw horse manure is a horrible idea on sterilized grain and substrate. Your tub is a blank canvas that you're using to try and promote your choice of fungus. Introducing raw manure gives all of the spores and bacteria in the manure all those same advantages, and all the moisture is going to screw with the field capacity. If you want to use manure again, learn how to pasteurize and dry it, and just ask the owner if you can take a bucket full for your garden for the trouble of shoveling it. You don't need a misdemeanor drawing attention to your felony.

Yea I’ve noticed lots of pins on the sides of the tub,( between the tub and side ), is there anything I can do to help them grow properly? Like the whole birthing method I tried to begin with? I should probably have learned my lesson by now with that but who knows- it didn’t kill it.
Any advise on misting frequency or whether or not to take the humidity dome off of the top and let the tub be exposed to fresh air?
The mushroom primordia have increased In number and size since these pictures were taken a few hours ago

Do. Not. Try. To. Fuck. With. The. Side. Pins.

Some will grow up straight just like a top pin. Many more will grow into a tangled slimy mess. Don't worry about it. When you go to harvest, get the top fruits off, put the lid on, then carefully tip the substrate over onto the lid then take the tub off so you can harvest the side and bottom pins. They're going to be ugly as sin, but if you dry and grind them you won't be able to tell the difference.

Leave the dome on and mist it when the surface is dry. You're not watering it like you would a plant.  All the moisture it needs has been in the substrate and grain since the day you mixed it. Misting is only done to cause surface evaporation, which is what triggers pinning. The less water you mist, the faster it evaporates. Over-mist, and you're just promoting contaminant growth. With the dome you'll be giving it 2-4 sprays 0-4 times a day.

Taking the dome off to mist might be all the fresh air they need. If the fruits are looking extra thin and tall, or start growing fuzzy white mycelium around the base, they need a bit more air. That might mean putting a brick under the edge of the dome, or it might mean you need to take the dome off a few hours a day. Pay attention to the fruit. They'll tell you what they need.

Mist more an case with jiffy mix in the future. The casing is a buffer to keep it from drying out.
