Re: Gun owners should pay a security fee to help pay for police protection [Re: XUL]
    #25607608 -

I wake up every morning and open the shop up, make a pot of coffee and watch my local news. Every morning there's at least 1-3 deaths with one or two wounded most mornings, sometimes even more. That's just one random city in the U.S. that I live in. Do the math lol. These are not law abiding gun owners having shootouts. These are mostly thugs with stolen/illegal firearms.

One does not have to vote to be a partisan.

Many people don't even vote, which has been shown in this very forum and by voting stats.

Great idea.

I mean, when u buy a concert ticket, u have to pay a "service fee". Why not a "service fee" for police that have to deal with crazy, violent gun owners?

I think it would be great.

this would require too much legislation and federal overeach in some states it's unconstitutional to have a gun registry
I don't think it would pass considering several state constitution's will need changed.
Unless of course they were to spend billions legislating it into law but at that point I think we the people would be double screwed.

The public pays the for policing already, and officials to run the cities that they live in. The money officials waste on bullshit could be spent on mental health instead of making new dumb laws holding the poor down by their necks. This will obviously never change or get better. Everyone in power is out for themselves and their interests for the most part.

How is it unconstitutional to have a gun registry?

It's unconstitutional because only law abiding gun owners will register and nothing will change. Redundancy will have no effect on the problem whatsoever. Also all my firearms are registered with the state that I live in with the state police. So Idk what you mean by register lol.

It’s like the part in the second amendment about being well regulated doesn’t even exist

The second amendment is vague anyway. "Right to bare arms" could mean a lot of things. Militias? Do we even have militias anymore?

It seems easy to me: Tax gun sales with a "law enforcement tax" at stores/gun shops. Sure, there will be lots of loopholes, but it should help anyway

To gun owners, the fact that only criminals break laws is somehow a brilliant insight, while the rest of us are aware that this fact is the basis of our justice system. We have laws. If you break them you are not law abiding. Nothing about this is limited to guns.

Should we not have laws because “gee, shucks they’re gonna get broken anyways.”

If you want to be legal, you pay the fee. If you don’t want to be legal, then you can deal with the consequences.

Just like driving without car insurance. If u get caught, its againist the law. So we have to pay car insurance just in case we have an accident.

The same should apply to guns i think as "accidents" (aka mass shootings) are still an issue today.

Swing and a miss.  I'd suggest actually reading the U.S. Constitution, but I might as well ask you to fly through the air by flapping your arms and squawking like some sort of chimeric abomination of man and bird.

All my firearms I've ever purchased, I had to have a extensive background check that can take several days until approval and their serial #'s have all my info linked to me and nobody els.

Guns cost society $228 billion per year. 300 million guns. I propose a licensing and registration fee of $300 per year per registered gun. That’s half off. All gun sales and trades are subject to that fee, which is partially refundable to a responsible owner when he trades or sells the weapon.

Ok. That’s great now we need your fee to help defray the statistical burden your firearm purchase imposed on society.

LMAO...do want to save lives or make $ instead? Charging gun owners and making threads about it here isn't going to stop the killing. I don't have the answer but obviously you don't either.

Stopping the killing is not possible. I don’t know why people think that is the goal. That is absurd. Nobody thinks outlawing murder will stop murders. Collecting money to pay for the killing is much easier. Excise tax on guns would be a goldmine. Victims of gun violence should never have to pay for the medical costs and lost wages due to their injuries. Gun owners should.

That's why we already have due process and a court of law. It's flawed but don't add more flaws to it.

The military budget would have to skyrocket for that.

Should we tax homosexuals to cover the cost of HIV treatments?  Maybe a tax on each newborn to cover its societal cost?
