Gun owners should pay a security fee to help pay for police protection * 2
    #25603071 -

The local synagogues now have police providing security to protect against anti-semites who want to shoot Jews. Why do tax payers have to fork over money to protect people from gun nuts. Gun owners should pay a security fee to cover these costs.

Gun violence costs $228 billion per year in the US.

Think about the costs associated with the Las Vegas shooting. Tens of millions of dollars in medical costs alone to treat the 500+ people who were shot. You know who isn’t going to pay a cent to cover those costs? The guy with the guns.

This is silly,  pay for your own fears or buy your own gun.

Another sad aspect of this is that many of the individuals are responsible for their own medical costs. Even with good insurance some will be in debt for life in addition to the physical issues.

No. It’s not silly. We have to pay to insure our cars. Gun owners should be responsible for the costs incurred by their own weapons, either through a fee or insurance.

It's all good.  The screams of the Muslim congregation that decided to stand guard in an act of solidarity will save us from being ripped apart by flying metal.

I've long said that the lack of stewardship from gun owners is the biggest threat to their own hobby. Go look at fisherman, hunters, atv riders, etc.. They all have groups that seek to promote responsible participants. Gun owners don't actively do this, in fact they often fight it.

That's brilliant.  That could be achievable because it fits in with the mythology of the age, the 'pay your own way', individualist type mentality when it comes to dealing with social issues that's broadcast to society at large 24/7 and has completely hypnotized so many people.

You could call out the gun owners as filthy socialists for forcing others to subsidize their lifestyle.

I'm actually in the market looking for another firearm that I can purchase 100rnd drums for, just because I can and my right to do so. I shoot paper targets, cans, soda bottles, steel plates an more. I've had guns in my possession since I was 13 living in the city and now I'm 41 and have been conceal carrying with a legal permit since I was 21 and never shot anyone. I'd risk my own life to defend a random citizen on the streets because I'm armed if need be.

That’s great. You are legallly permitted to own a gun. That is completely irrelevant to whether you should have to pay a fee or insurance to own it.

What would happen if in the act of using your gun to protect yourself, you accidentally shoot a bystander? They are permanently disabled and will require millions of dollars in medical care for the rest of their life? Can you afford that lawsuit?

I'm not permitted to own a gun. It's my right to do so. I have a permit to conceal carry/hide my gun from your eyes in public. I'm not paying $1.00 usd for your unconstitutional ideas period.

Owning a firearm comes with a lot of responsibilities, If I fuck up,I knowingly can be charged in the court of law and go to prison or worse.

That's infringement of my rights written  & given. Change the Constitution if you think you can.

Nothing about having to pay a fee is infringing on your right. Are you saying that having to pay money to own a gun is unconstitutional? Does that mean gun shops and gun manufacturers - the entire firearms industry - is unconstitutional? They charge a lot of money to citizens who want to exercise their right. The federal government charges citizens an excise tax on firearms and ammunition. State governments charge sales tax.

Nothing about owning a gun is without cost. I’ve heard many gun owner say it’s actually a very expensive hobby.

That's what they all say.  All gun owners are outstanding gun owners.  They all are doing their part to help America, and stand vigilant against tyranny, believing that a disorganized network of  gun enthusiasts could take out the most advanced, nuclear armed government military the world has ever seen.

They are idealistic.

It's all fine until they find out that their best friend has been sleeping with their wife for three years so they track them down on a date and, in a fit of rage, kill everyone in the place.

Human beings crack up sometimes.  Fact of life.

You may offer and convince some gun owners to buy insurance but it would most likely have to be mandatory because it would fall on deaf law abiding firearm owners and hobbyists ears. I don't have the answer for gun control but enforcing new laws on law abiding gun owners will never fix anything. Real criminals don't give a fuck about laws and have illegal guns and will substitute a gun with other means to do harm to others by any means.

Without legal gun owners there would be no industry to produce guns for those who use and possess guns illegally.

It’s not about convincing them to buy insurance. I was thinking more of an  excise fee when you purchase a gun. Actuaries would have to figure out the right amount. There’s already taxes and fees when you purchase a gun. Some states require you to pay a fee to purchase a gun. Most states require fairly heavy license fees to own and/or carry a gun. Again, there is nothing different about what I am proposing.

The first amendment protects the right to protest to government. That doesn’t stop the government from requiring permits and charging permit holders the cost of maintaining public safety, which can be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars for a large rally.

Nothing in the constitution says exercising your right must be cost free (except voting, and we know how that goes).
