Re: Incubator question. [Re: Caps McGee]

Well i got them going in the pot now. I'll be able to inject them at like 9 or so tonight so they'll be sitting for like 3 hours or so.

Question, is it okay to stack these other three on top of my other 5 jars that are getting ready to germinate?

Stagger so the bottom of the top layer are sitting on 2 jars, as to keep the GE port open on the bottom row of jars...

(like the pints on the outside, not like the quarts in the middle)

Sweet man.. got it. Thanks for all your help on this buddy.

And like I've said.. house is lingering in the 60's... hits about 58 at night. That's not problematic other than just making them take longer to germinate, correct?

Except for the timeline, colder temps are an advantage IMO. Keeps bacteria down, which is most peoples' #1 problem.

This time I've got 3 more brewing up right now. Going to head to the gym.. then come back, shower.. get my space together and do my work inside of  SAB today as well as with a lighter.

Little bit better this time around . Who knows, some of the other jars might make it too! Only has been a day! I'll keep you guys posted and ask more questions as needed!

Appreciate it!

So when k made the holes in these jars.. they're a bit big. Last run, I didn't make some of them big enough and had to really push the needle in. Was risking breaking the needle but it worked.

I mean the holes aren't super big.. I just used a nail. Will this be a problem?

I mean I know its bigger than it needs to be. I did put a good layer of verm on top. And.. fresh out the pot and into my FC to chill for a little bit. (Just a tub).

Inaculation for those tomorrow.. just don't have the time to sterlize everything right now.. and dont want to rush anything!

Its fine, verm layer should protect from penetrating  contamination... cover them with micropore tape after inoculation... can keep jars in the PC until use, helps with stress on the glass to lengthen cooling and is better protection prior to innoculating... though if you didn't get the verm wet, they should be fine

Is micropore tape necessary? I've got the 6 other jars just in my tub agree inoculation.

Sitting in top of my closet shelf inside a tub with the lid ajar.

Micropore tape is not necessary.

So these are my new jars.. have not put the spores into them yet. My jars have a little condensation on the sides. No water from in there from the pot .. couldn't be. Had the foil on there extremely well & had foil over the water at the bottom with a very easy boil. So no splashing.

Is this normal? Or problematic?

Leaving them in the PC to cool helps with condensation... Looks like you may have prepped on the wet side, may end up bacterial: could resorb the moisture and be fine!

Last night it hit 57 degrees in ny house. Lingers at 62 during the day.

I just want to know how much this slows down colonization? Is it worth me building an incubator & just keeping it at like 70? I know leaving them at lower temps is less risky . But low 70s is better than low 60s I would assume?

I mean, do what you want... it'd be better,  if you can work it out so there's no direct heat... idk that id risk it, but that's just me

Would you consider a TiT incubator method direct heat? And do I put a blanket on top or is just a lid with holes more ideal?

Your house doesn't have a heater? I would suggest warming the room up to at least the upper 60's with a space heater if possible.

Depends on how well it's built... I don't like the idea personally... maybe just caudle them in an open tub with a blanket without covering the lids? Off really just try and heat the house slightly
