Incubation Questions
    #689321 -

A couple of questions maybe you can help with.

Some person I know using the BRF method has sterilized and innoculated jars, they have begun growing mycellium, he however does not have the holes in the lids taped or covered with foil in the incubator. Would it be smart to cover them now, 4-5 days after innoculation or would it no longer pay?

Second question, spraying the inside of the incubator with anti bacterial spray after checks would be smart, at this point also?

Thanks for the help

I usually just cover with foil. I find I get minimal air exchange and covered holes...best of both worlds IMHO!

I clean my incubator with 10% bleach whenever I feel necessary!

I would tape the jar holes. This would better protect the jars from contams and maintain the moisture level which originally existed in the jars. Closer to full colonization the jars could have the tape removed to premote Co2 dumping as the jars reach fully colonization.

There doesn?t exist anything like CO2 dumping.
At the stage of substrate colonisation high CO2 levels are normal and beneficial, they stimulate mycelium growth.
If the bottom doesn?t colonize, it?s either becasue it?s too dry, too wet, too packed or contaminated.
NOT becasue of too much CO2...
