Incubator question.
    #25555429 -

Okay.  So my house stays pretty cool during the upcoming of winter. Anyway.. I figured I would just try and make a simple incubator.

Does this looks okay? The top portion is just resting on the water underneath. Is this the whole point? Just so the water underneath warms the bottom of the top tub?

Ugh can't upload the pic. But I'm sure you can picture what I'm saying

I can't picture it.

A space heater in a closet can do it.

I actually went to the hardware store and got 6 sheets of ridged foam insulation and a role of tuck tape and built a freestanding closet with that.  Was almost too easy.  I threw a resin shelving unit in there along with a space heater, and that's the incubator.

Incubators hurt more than they help. If you're comfy then they will be too. If you're not then heat the room, not the jars.

These are the TEKs I use. They're all as cheap and easy as possible, just like your mom.

In that case protect your house keep it at least 65. Or get a radiator type space heater for a room

Do you think if i brought them to work and kept them in my locker would be better? My shops very dirty.  But i could wrap them in a plastic bag and keep them there.. temps stay In the 70s there.. opposed to my 58/60 degree house. Or is the risk of contamination too high bringing them into a shop wrapped in a bag? Risk and reward??

The verm layer should protect from contamination... don't wrap in plastic, they need air...why not heat the home? 58-60 would cause slow growth, but taking it from the house is a huge risk, legally speaking

Just cheap people I live with is all. I did have a order for a space heater but cancelled it because in my head I was just gonna see if they'll make progress in my house with the conditions. I'm getting ready to drop the spores in shortly. Getting prep atm

I'm not sure if I overdid it. I kinda of screwed myself a bit because some of the holes weren't big enough so I had to push the needle down to open the hole more. Still got it in there though.

Anyway, is it normal for it to look wet at the bottom? I mean i dont think I overdid it. Barely even use half of the syringe. FULL OF SPORES THOUGH. Huge clump.

Not supposed to be wet at the bottom... often times, less is more, and more increases the chance for bacteria, and rogue contaminant spores... did you shake the syringe, and flame sterilize it before innoculating? Did you use a SAB? Were your jars covered in tinfoil from PC to SAB just prior to inoculation?

Looks like cracks in the glass... need to elevated them from the pot with  lid rings, and not full rapid boil them to avoid vibration... really need to flame the needle... fire sterilizes, alcohol only sanitizes, and won't even kill contaminant spores... Lysol not doing anything,  need air sanitizer  (really need none of it working in a SAB) are you using a SAB? Pressure cooker? These jars are likely toast...
