Vertical Flowhood : VD-650, will it work?
    #25520516 -

I was interested in making a flowhood but came across this one on ebay for $150 with free pick up. I fucked up because I didn't do the proper amount of research before purchasing. I'm wondering if anyone has used this unit with success?

My main concerns are:
1. The class 100 rating, is that sufficient enough?

2. It's a vertical flowhood instead of horizontal, does the sterile tek I've been using in a SAB transfer over or are there new movements to learn?

Here's some pics from a similar listing

It’ll work, more similar to SAB work than a horizontal hood but still slightly different. Extremely overpriced as well but if you need plug and play there it is. I’d spend 200 less and build a 24x24.

Thanks for the advice but I spent a total of $150 on it. The link is just for pics only. I purchased the item from a different listing

If you have already bought it cut off the bottom set it on its side and use it
horizontally. Don't use it vertically it will blow any contams right down on what you are working on.

That's cool. I'd love to buy one of those for $35. But I've already bought this one and I'm just trying to figure out if it'll work or if I should just use it as a SAB while I build something.

I wouldn't use it as it is designed to be used (vertically) You could cut off the bottom and lay it on its side so it can be used horizontally. But I think that would be a wast it is to small. I would contact the seller and ask him to cancel the order. If he says no only ask for a partial refund. it is better to lose a little than have something you can't use. Or just don't pay for it you will get a strike on ebay that's all.

There are plenty of people that use a vertical hood just fine. You just need to be more careful of your hands/arms and use some different techniques. I know of at least one guy that uses one (maybe that same one) for his small commercial edible farm.

I use a vertical hood, and it does work well, but you have to find where the best flow is,mine has best flow at about 2/3 inches off the counter, and right in front of the opening. I do all the work on the rack closest to me. I bought a fan and blower combo, and built the box. I wouldnt turn a vertical fan horizontal myself, unless manufacturer said its ok. I think some fans are designed specifically for vertically only. I could be wrong, but that thing should work well, their like 500-600$ brand new. Id like to know how it works.
