Introducing "Grond," the Flowhood that Ate Your Flowhood

I picked this monstrosity up, sight unseen, off of ebay for 150 bucks. Pretty good deal considering it retails for much, much more. Turns out, when I go to pick it up I thought it would be smaller. Much much smaller. It's about 3.5 feet wide, 3 feet deep, and 5 feet tall. It weighs about 150-200 pounds, and is polished stainless steel with 2 HEPA filters in it. It even had a small asian family living inside of it (with a pet cat), that I had to start charging rent. Moral of the story: find out what size your flowhood is before you buy one. Cool, yeah? I'm thinking about replacing the filters, though, since it'd been sitting in a warehouse for a while. What do you guys think?

Looks like a vertical flowhood used to prepare antigens for allergy clinics. Those are very nice and usually strictly maintained.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I've been spending the last hour or so cleaning it up... lysoling the thing inside the workspace... opening up the top to check all the electrics, filters, and pumps... looks good, so far. Do you guys think it's a good idea to change out the filters? I'm hoping not. They are expensive.

I got it off of ebay. I asked if they had any more, and they said that they didn't. Sorry :frown:

Anyhow, the best part is that it was stored at a packing facility about an hour away from where I live, and I didn't have to pay shipping. I didn't have to pay tax, either. 150 out the door is pretty damned good :smile:
