Opinions needed on Flowhood

What do you guys think of these bench top flow hoods? As you can see, they're vertical, but also have the added benefit of protecting the user from particulate contaminants and germs. I'll be using it for culturing, plating, and all other mycologic things (I took up growing portabellos and shiitakes... sell to restaurants). Why I chose it, instead of a horizontal flow design, is because I'm a chemistry student, and can use it for my own research with chemicals when I don't want to go to the lab. Thoughts?

They require u to work between the flow of clean air and what your working with...
Not very piratical in this hobby...
You would be better off making a horizontal hood TBH, that way you could work over your stuff, but not between the air...

This has all been discussed before...

When I first considered a flow hood I thought about the vertical type, but went with a horizontal after talking to RR. Now that I have one(horizontal) I am very glad RR talked me out of it. The horizontal design is so much better. I don't see how the vert design can work without getting a lot of contams. Once you play with one you will see what I mean. The air flow needs to be coming at you, not down. Good luck......MM

Well, it's too late. I got a good deal ($150) on it. The bid closed after I read your replies. No problemo. $150 on a flowhood is a damned good deal. All stainless steel, has 2 HEPA filters good to .03 microns or whatever it was. Adjustable flow. Can you dig it?

Maybe I'll resell it, maybe I'll keep it. I think I'll just turn it on it's side when I have to do agar/LC work just to spite it's verticalness.
