Monotub temperatures on tile floor

So Im doing two 66qt monotubs, one stacked on the other sitting on tile floor.. The top monotub is condensing and the lid is cloudy but the bottom monotub's lid isn't cloudy.. Both were set up the same, tight polyfil stuffed in holes and saran wrapped on lids..
Is the reason the bottom isn't condensing on the lid because its on the floor and the tile makes that monotub internal temperature cooler? I just added cardboard on the bottom of the monotub so its not directly touching the tile floor.. what do you guys think?

I wouldnt have them on the floor... but cardboard would likely be ok... though I don't suspect it'd be an issue unless it's cold ... reason the bottom isn't condensing on the lid is bc the heat from the top substrate matches the heat inside the bottom tub... condensation only indicates higher temp inside than outside of the tub, and can occur even with a dry substrate... not a way to gauge RH, need to learn proper surface conditions... no biggy

The reason why there is not condensation on the lid of the bottom tub is cause the heat from the substrate of the top tub is transfered onto the lid. Just like with poured petri's, let them cool down stacked and there will be little condensation.

I don't know about the design of your tubs but most tubs have little 'heels' in all four bottom corners to keep it elevated even if only a mm or two. But this is enough to insulate the heat transfer from the substrate into the colder tile floor.

The floor is the dirtiest part of your house. Use an empty tub to stack your FCs on.

Makes sense does anyone else stack directly on top of each other? My tile floor is super clean so I doubt id get any contams from that.. was more concerned about why the monotub on floor wasnt condensating on the lid n looking like how the one on top did at the time

Because of the temperature differences on the inside and outside of the lid.

One lid had similar temps on inside and outside of lid and the other lid had colder temps on outside and warmer on inside and this condensed as droplets on the inside of lid.

I stack totes all the time, the bottom one is usually empty, or filled with miscellaneous shit. It keeps the subs the same temp as the ambient temp of the room. Even though your floor may be extremely clean the vast majority of contams are in the air within 12 inches of the floor, it's just better to keep your sub up off the floor, its not required but it sure doesn't hurt anything.

The monotub with the condensed lid seems to be moving faster so I added cardboard between them stacked onto each other to see if it makes a difference

Your floor may be cleaned but the floor is the dirtiest place in a home as well as the air down there

It's not the surface of the floor you should be concerned with,  but rather the 12" blanket of floating dust and contaminant spores that gravity so graciously delivers for us... short of having a whole home HEPA filtration system, and hermetic seals on all doors and windows... Still have SOME nasties to contend with... anything to get them a foot above the ground

Would a space heater on the floor cause the contaminates and spores to be circulating around the room more than the 12 inches you guys mentioned above? Have to heat the room its been in the 40s and 50s here in Wisconsin.

I'm watching the game outside its 54 in Milwaukee. No central air? Radiator type heaters work well. The fan forced ones really dry a room out. The radiator type you can put a pan/dish/tray of water on the top of them.

Thank you bod, going to fleet farm to see if they have one, go brewers go packers! If not should I put a humidifier in the room or just keep my shoeboxes at the right rh?

Room humidity can be low all winter my room humidity is low as fuck. Nose bleeds, static shocks, etc.. but the tubs and shoeboxes do fine
They keep their own humidity. I boil pots of water or use a warm mist for my own comfort.

Great idea forced air heat sucks so dry, I usually put water in a bread pan on the heat vent that helps though my dog like to drink it lol

Do they keep their own temperature as well?
(as long as the outside temp are not freezing or super hot( 100+'s) ?

I was stacking mine like this for a while.


at some point i had 5 stacked lol.

There will be condensation on the lids wherever the top tub inst touching it. (center area)
