What are my cacti worth? $
    #25071405 -

I am moving and I am broke as fuck so I need to sell my cacti babies.
I never intended on selling them when I started them all but it’s nevessary now as I do not have a job or any other income at the moment.

How do I price them appropriately? I don’t want to rip people off. But I’ve got hundreds of em and I’ve got the opportunity here to make the cash I need to get a new apartment so I’m not homeless.

Here’s an example, I have about 200 of cacti this size:

Some are topped and some are not.

I was thinking a fair price for a seedling ^ that size was 5-10$. It’s a 4 year old seedling.

Then how about stuff like this?

Is 30$ too much for a cacti like that ^ one? It’s 19” tall and 5 years old seedling.

I grew them all organic their whole life if that makes a difference.

I wanted to try and make a standard like say 1$ for every inch it is tall or something easy like that. But I don’t want to rip myself off just as much as I don’t want to rip others off.
I fucking LOVE every one of my cacti and I don’t want to sell them but I can’t keep this many anymore and due to my financial situation I can’t really afford to just give them away free.

How would you guys go about pricing?
Does it make a difference if they’re cuttings or seedlings? I sorta figured seedlings with the original tap root would be more desirable..
Does the species make a difference? I thought the pachanoi at least would be worth a little more than Peruvians or Bolivians.

What do you guys think is a fare price for the cacti pictured?

Is 1$ an inch plus 1$ a year sound appropriate?
I.e. that 19” five year old cacti would therefore be 24$.

Thanks guys.

I really have no idea on Cacti pricing, but your pricing system seems really fair. Maybe a little to fair.
Wish I could help more.

All depends.

Did you care for them...love, water, protection from bugs etc?
Do they have names, personalities?
Are they unique in genetics or appearance?

Also a cactus is not just any plants, it can mean a friend for life even if you forget to water it sometimes. That's worth something in itself already.

Either way, the prices you name sound like really good bargains to me

Anything with names won’t be getting sold. There’s a few dozen of them that are far too precious to me to sell.

But yes I put a fuck ton of care and love into them. Protected them like they were my own children! And you’re totally right they can absolutely be a friend for life! I don’t know if I could ever even bring myself to eat one lol they’re just too special to destroy

I traded a cactus for some ganja once.  Well, $20 worth of the $50 bag.

They are not worth much unless a very special specimen.

5-10 dollars plus shipping is fair for the seedlings. 30 plus shipping is definitely fair for a rooted 19" cactus. if you knew the name/origin of the variety you have you would get a lot more. I am on ebay constantly looking at cacti and I think ur prices sound pretty spot on. also I would much rather buy a cacti grown from seed because it is unique and not a clone like a cutting.

Seems pretty steep based on the thickness.

I know the genus, species, and origin/variety of all of them.
I even have some rare-ish individuals such as semi monstrose specimens, semi melted wax specimens, some 4 ribbed (4 winds) specimens, 7 ribbed which has similar lore to the 4 ribbed ones. I’ve read in several sites that the native tribes way back when sought after 7 ribbed specimens before anything else.
Though if you ask me the number of ribs isn’t even a defineable characteristic cuz I’ve seen 4 ribbed cacti turn to 6 ribs and I’ve seen 5 ribbed cacti turn to 4 ribs then back again to 5 or 6. All sorts of changes like that. Some just seem to add or drop ribs at random.

I’ve even got some that are rooted using the log technique and while not technically anything special they do have a certain visual appeal.

Also just some really really pretty phenotypes. For instance I have a few bridgesii that have fire red spines and are super sexy.

Plenty of the pachanoi are very glaucous with a beautiful blueness.
Two of my pachanoi are decades old too. I got them from a nice old man at a hydro store who claimed to have travelled to Ecuador and Peru during the 80’s and while there he collected wild seeds with a guide. He started the seeds in the 80’s when he returned back to Canada and 2 of the cactus are now kept in a display tent setup at his hydro store. He was quite happy to share a cutting from each cacti with me when I told him I knew what they were. He was quite thrilled to tell me the whole story and I was eager to listen, old dudes like to ramble lol.
I got those cuttings in 2013 and have since made quite a few more cuttings from them and my god are they ever gorgeous. Theyre one of the varieties I’m sure is worth a little more because of how old the genetics are and how pretty they are. One of my largest cuttings from him is almost 3 feet tall and is intensely glaucous.
His store is called northern lights so I’ve dubbed the cacti I received from him the northern lights clones. Which fits nicely since they’ve been up here in Canada for 30+ years and also because of how blue they’ll get.

I’m also waiting to see what happens with this one pup which so far looks like a penis plant. It’s only half an inch big right now coming off a normal bridgesii, but it’s got no ribs, areoles, or spines right now. I really am hoping it keeps going like that and becomes something special.

Agreed, most of the cuttings that are $1 an inch are 2-4inches thick

I'm sure you're right about that. I rarely buy cactus online so I'm not a good judge of what the prices are. Locally I see a lot of good deals on trichos at hardware stores and nurseries. The stuff I see is grown outdoors in the sun. $20 to $30 dollars for 1 to 2 foot tall specimens. Often there are 2 cactus in one container. But there isn't too much variety in what is offered, although from time to time something interesting pops up.

Sounds like you have some nice plants Zombi3. Best luck selling them.

ya, i usually see foot cutting for around $20-$30 unless its a popular clone then they can go $40+ depending on what it is. but these are usually prime thick cuttings. the 19 inch one might be a bit of a hard sell at that price point, but maybe the extra length will make up for that to someone, a cut is worth what someone is willing to pay for it i would think an auction site would be helpful.

i personally would be hesitant to buy a cutting that thin AND tall, i have a bridge that has like 2-3 inches of thin growth in the middle but went back to being fat on top and im constantly worrying about it snapping since it bends under its own weight, and picturing a 19inch thin cutting with heavy new growth just seems like a disaster waiting to happen, i guess you could cut it into sections as grafting stock or mother plants or it could be a good investment if the buyer intends to cut it in half and grows it as a log for pups but just like seedlings all those options are more of a long term plan and investment, and personally not something id do unless it was pretty cheap..other wise id just pay the $20-$30 and get a prime cut that's ready to be rooted/planted and resume normal growth now without all the messing around.

but again that's just my perspective, you might find someone here or on a "popular auction site" that has need of exactly what youv got. smaller cuttings go up on "popular auction site" all the time so that might help you gauge what the demand/price point your looking at.

When basement shaman had some young cacti from the seed stock workd seed supply has.  I paid around $30.  Those were hybrids and they had some pure pedro and torch.  Really nice thick cacti.

I don't have windows for them these days.  Plus my fam knows what they are.
