Part 2 of my afterlife question for ya'll

If you could choose between no afterlife and an afterlife which would  you choose and why?

I feel like no afterlife is the safer bet.  It seems no different than a deep, dreamless sleep.  That said, the afterlife could be great.  One big merger with the Uverse, like some of my psychedelic experiences.  I'm a little more concerned about living at the moment... I want to feel relaxed, safe, high, intelligent, raunchy, hilarious..  I can't stand the feeling of the same shit, different day when life sometimes if's full of myriads of positive impressions.

Everything is better than it was the last time.  I'm good.

If we could look into each others hearts, and understand the unique challenges each of us faces, I think we would treat each other much more gently, with more love, patience, tolerance, and care.

It takes a lot of courage to go out there and radiate your essence.

I know you scared, you should ask us if we scared too.  If you was there, and we just knew you cared too.

Hey we're back on topic. Amazing.

That's kind of how I feel now too. Too risky is an afterlife that could turn out to be more of this. The most I can do is to make the best of this until I find out the rest. Of course if this matrix is just a game we are playing and you can choose better ones then that would be cool wouldn't it. I'm not convinced by the evidence however. It could certainly be a matrix or simulation but some silly kid is the likely creator. The Demiurge is 6 years old and loves to pull the wings off of flies.  Anything's possible and I don't pay no mind to those who claim they know but cannot show how they know.

and

Unfortunately imo for most of humanity we've created a culture where we are sort of encouraged to just do the same things day after day. Modernity and a material world can bury you in  paperwork and chores and meaningless rinse and repeat. Keeps us in check and controllable I guess. All those hippies of the 60s that were going to be forever living on communes and bringing about the new freer  reality have left the earth in dire straights with rampant consumerism and greed and have basically done what their parents did and they've taught their kids to follow suit.

Psychedelics are illegal and booze and antidepressants. are just dandy for everyone. And that's  a "free" country.  That pretty much sums it  up. Not my kind of place. But for those who think this is all just dandy good for them, they can have it with my blessing.

Yeah I'll gladly slip into the void. That's likely how it will go anyway.  I'm agnostic about an afterlife. There's a lot of people here who know exactly what coming. According to them that is. I'm ready to be surprised.

Yeah likely so but you and I don't know that for a certainty. What a hoot to find Don Juan and your favorite dog waiting for ya ready for a voyage into Salvia land.  OR... a soul trap and a reincarnation right back into the matrix to be born as a slave in the future dystopia.  It's a crap shoot imo. My motto is be ready for anything and expect to have to fight your way out.

Nice to see you here Hue. I still remember that fucking thread where we met and duked it out on opposite sides. Who was that guy who started that thread? He had a cool name.  Shit that was over 12 years ago I think. He was a troublemaker just like me. Always bringing up taboo subjects.  I liked him but boy did the haters hate on him. I think he even got death threats.

I remember you talking about taking a shotgun to someone having sex with your daughter  (Yeah that's it, it was about, pedophelia and what actually was the meaning and age of consent).  You were just kidding though right about that gun.

Those were fun times and a great crowd posting back then. Remember Sinbad? I've always wondered what became of him. He was a Buddhist I could relate to.

The only afterlife that is mildly appealing to me is one where every moment or day or whatever is new. Even then most versions of the afterlife have no real meaning and are mostly selfish iterations of paradise. The one thing life has going for it is that each moment could be your last, even with repetition there is this underlying chaos you're hoping to control or conquer.

Metaphysically speaking, one could argue it's better to never have existed in the first place. Would the world be a lesser or better place without you? Impossible to say since we aren't omnipotent. Throw everyone in the non-existence basket and you're left with nothing, which definitely makes things less interesting. The randomness of our existence brings a weird order to the universe, probably what makes an afterlife an attractive belief rather than an attractive idea.

My belief is we reject paradise or an eternal afterlife for life, at least I know I do.

Yeah good point. I also want newness. OK I'm almost 65. You know how many times I've had to brush my teeth  and all those other little things that take up so much of the day? It's definitely gotten old. Even movies, books, even music and shit. I'm ready for something completely new.

Well my favorite dog I got right beside me now...don't need a dead one...and this Carlos is too old to listen to don Juan.

I remember that guy...the gay Muslim...Zahid...later changed to zahudulallah...who made it or something like that. That post was one of the greats. This One
I complemented him on the quality of his post at the end but he just gave me a 1 star rating which he has since removed. Just after that thread my kid got in a little trouble for having sex with a minor (he was 20 and she was 16)...lol. The authorities declined to jail him....so much for my influence. We had a lot of fun that weekend.

Sinbad packed his shit and moved on like everyone else but us lamers.

life after death or horse before the cart. [Re: Jokeshopbeard]
    #24941020 -

I am not sure why this topic degenerated so badly, but philosophy can branch into either the more strongly evidenced based observations, or into speculations that reach beyond the last shreds of evidence.

As long as some life exists, a person may lay down breadcrumbs of some sort or other that may be followed by others.

I think we covered the fact that some patients (and others) have had NDE's and have reported their stories.

Those who love evidence based reasoning are able to follow the breadcrumbs (NDE reports) and map the reports into some version of lucid dreaming, while those who love conjecture are able to use these stories as indicative (if not proof) that an afterlife exists and we need to unravel all we can from these reports as death affects everyone.

The motivation to focus on NDE's, when bound to the universality of death applying to all of us here and yet to be born, is truly noble, but it does not tolerate the obvious similarity of all NDE's to dream sequences, and the lack of any patterns that transcend local and personal cultural conditioning of the individual reporting the NDE.

Using "death" as leverage to make the study of NDE's more important than dreams in general seems unfair to me. Death is natural, as the ending of a life term. It need not be scary, especially since it is as natural as anything else in life. It need not be so important since it consumes such a small fraction of time compared to all the time we spend living, loving, eating, day dreaming etc.

Why is is so scary to some people that all things are measured against death and found wanting?

death is an experience

it is not more important than lucid dreaming
or dreaming for that matter

it is all a dream

Maybe, if there is an afterlife then it might be totally different than that what we assume, or a mixture of what we could imagine, or both and still 'real', just like a higher dimension, with a absolute logic, and when we are here on earth we only experience shadows which it casts onto the material plane.

As I was young it made total sense, that only here incarnated we could change our ranking on the good-evil ladder which is a mark of expression of our self and also matters in the afterlife, where it is much harder to change.

But this surely belongs in the mystic forum.

I think an afterlife's structure/nature could be up to the person who get's there
so it might be a gnome world, since that is what we would chose (maybe)

but it might be limitless (in structure, form, sense (sensory)), since it might be eternal, and since it maybe could be up to us what it is
so if the person has ultimate sanity
or is awakened
or something else
he could chose the perfect existence (maybe)

It is the point I raise when I see people projecting ongoing angst in topics which should otherwise provoke mutual, calm discussion.

Quote:
One could argue that every human wars with themselves from time to time.

The last time I brought it up with you, you were projecting violence through threats to someone who disagreed with you, in the midst of other negative and violent posts.

Hence, it’s important how we manage our inner wars rather than using the same excuse for projecting them.
