That's a good question. Not that I wanted to bring this up, but I went down this path because I ended up with a gun in my mouth. Pulled it out because I realized I hadn't tried everything, and I didn't want to leave my children fatherless. This is helping immensely, and actually has me participate in their lives rather than being at work or in bed. So im not sure how to quantify that risk/reward.
It's easy to oversimplify risk/reward, especially with children. So many situations in which you have decide whether sheltering your kids from something is more or less detrimental than exposing them to it with no clear answer.
Other things to consider: 1 Do you have on criminal record? 2 Are you generally a productive, responsible citizen. 3 What are law enforcement priorities and policies in your area? 4 What are criminal justice priorities in your area.
In many areas even if police happen to be in your home and find your grow they might look the other way. If they cite you the DA will give you a slap on the wrist, drug diversion, a plea deal or some other minor penalty as long as you aren't causing larger problems.
In other areas DA's, cops, and judges might still have a hard-on for feeding the prison industrial complex through draconian drug war policies and throw the book at anyone who steps out of line.
